Radar Detectors?
I have a valentine 1 for my car.... looking to make some sort of setup for my bike.... looked at this forum post here->
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/mot ... -help.html (look at the very bottom where a guy has a bmw). Interested in doing that... I wish he posted more details. Anyone got a similar setup?

Re: Radar Detectors?
I ALWAYS have an escort8500 on my bike and in my car.
I just mounted my escort on my new bike RTP1100 with marc parnes led block that is very visible day and nite. Best $59 bucks I spent on bike besides tires.
Plugs into speaker jack and has saved me lots of bucks on tickets.
I mounted it on lexan strip above and between guages and hard wired with Garmin. All holes on escort sealed up with rtv.

Re: Radar Detectors?
Ok what is a RTP1000 and what is a marc parnes led block, what is your speaker jack? Do you have blue tooth between your helmet and your garmin? I am trying to build my solution from the bottom up and I need all the parts when you guys start talking!bimmerguy wrote:I ALWAYS have an escort8500 on my bike and in my car.

Spelling with fat thumbs, ME.
RTP1100 is cop bike and marcparnes.com makes radar detector visual alert for valentine, escort and bel as well as lots of other great bike products.
It has miniplug that plugs into Escort8500 speaker jack, that turns the beep into flashing red led's.
My own personal pref.

Re: Radar Detectors?
I have an Escort that I use on my R1200R as well as in the car. It has saved me in both vehicles. Lots of guys prefer the Valentine, but I Like the red light camera warning in town while driving the car.
I bought the BMW GPS Repair Plug and a hard wire kit from Escort and it works great. The Marc Parnes visual alert work much better than I ever expected. Here is one thread on the subject, you can use the Search feature on this board for others.

Re: Radar Detectors?
meaning you tapped that line for power? no problem with that? What amperage is the fuse on that circuit?hard wired with Garmin
I, too, am trying to mount a V1, but on an 1150 roadster.
Tech-mount makes some nice mounting equipment; or you could go with Ram Mounts.
All of my handlebar space is taken up with two tech-mounts-one for Zumo, one for Sirius. I def want the V1 out of the weather.
I do not want to block the view of any guages or lights, so it becomes a problem to mount it. I would like to mount it on the 1/2' support tube for my 380 tall windscreen with a 6-7" extension arm, but so far the Tech Mount people are telling me it would rotate on the tube. But they are looking into it. If I mount it where I want to, over the tach on the right, I will have unobstructed views and so will the V1, and it will be out of the weather but....finding the hardware is so far the issue.
I'll post as I progress on this.

If you are getting to many mounts on your handlebars, check this link and scroll down to Version 2, 2007.

I finally figured out I don't need weather protection for my radar detector because I don't like to go fast in inclement conditions. I just take the radar detector off the magnetic RAM Mount and put it in my pocket or tank bag. I left the inline fuse that game with my Escort hard wire kit since the amperage was only two, and I think the GPS plug is 5.

Re: Radar Detectors in rain
I use Escort 8500 w marc parnes red led visual alert and have for years.
Very visible day or nite.
I sealed up most of the top holes on Escort with silicone for heavy rains, and siliconed led block to top. I had marc put 2" cord and 90 degree plug on it for me.
This is the escort from my car , I trust it and know what to expect from it's alerts.
It's mounted to lexan strip above and between guages with ind strength velcro so I can pull it in a downpour.
For my GPS {not waterproof} I'll carry ziplock bags and rubber bands and of course everything is fused.
I may still need it to find hotel or camp in the rain.

Bimmerguy, can see a photo of the lexan strip you are using for a mount? Sounds interesting.

Re: Radar Detectors?
I wired the bike yesterday. I removed the direct power adapter's inline fuse and attached directly to my added on Centech AP1, switched power (remember this is an 1150 and no can-bus). I routed two RJ11s to the front of the bike. Awaiting the Tech Mount mount which should come tomorrow.
The only trouble I had was I kept blowing out fuses, but discovered that the nice coiled RJ11 was shorting at one end as the plug was bad. New 4pin RJ11 from Radio Shack and everything stayed lit.
My Zumo now shares a fuse with the Sirius radio, a 2 amp, and so far they are happy together.
When together I will post pix

Re: Radar Detectors?
I have an Adaptive TPX mounted on a adapted Techmount that I welded to the sport screen frame. It sits just to the right of the instruments and is still behind the screen for protection. Where it is mounted it can't be removed without an allen wrench which is fine for me. I was a little worried about welding to the sport screen frame but it worked out well. I orginally had it in the middle of the handlebars but it obscurred the instrument cluster. It was just an agravation to me. I do have two bikes and I did move the TPX between the two which was a hassle since the new position doesn't allow it to be removed easily. Then, I picked up a TPX sans wiring and mount from a guy that totaled his bike. He had left the TPX at home in the closet that day. I wired it through an Eastern Beaver accessory fuse block.
I try not to speed, but it sure is nice having the added protection. The R1200R seems to like to cruise above the speed limit (or is it just me).

Please post pics of these installs!! I'm drooling and prepping for a trip to the Tetons in a couple weeks... going to ride to Spearfish first during the stupid rally to stay with friends. Would really like to have my RD on board...

Re: Radar Detectors?
I received the Tech Mount this afternoon and am almost finished with the install. It's a lot of stuff on the dash and I am not crazy about the cluttered look, but, The valentine is easily removable, it's bracket is easily removable, because I am only putting it on for trips. It was hard to get just oin the correct position because it was tight to do it without blocking the view of the tach, and because the tech-mounts are made so finely you have to line things up just so. It is almost infinitely adjustable. They used to use a ball head that maybe could make it so (or not), but was much harder to tighten down.
All gauges are easily visible in the riding position. Tha Valentine 1 is sitting above the tach.
These are just a couple of iPhone pix, so sorry about the quality, or lack of.
There is a wire hanging from the left that will be removed. I ran that one for the Valentine's accessory display that I will not likely use sinc the V1 sits so high. The other two farkles are my Zumo on the left and a Sirius radio on the right.

I tried to take the picture from a riding perspective

You're going to the stupid rally? Oh, man that is not the way to see that country.rokinrider wrote:Please post pics of these installs!! Make it on your way to see Alladin and its country store. That is a nice route from Spearfish through Alladin to Devil's Tower. Don't miss it. Two VERY worthy detours on your way are Little Big Horn, and then Beartooth Hwy and Chief Joseph hwy.
Cross the bighorn range along the way. And don't worry about Medicine Wheel, prob still covered with snow.
John
PS In that area I was stopped three times (Montana/Wyoming) for 22 in a 15 passing an ice cream truck doing 7-warning; 62 in a 55-warning; 45 in a 30-ticket --all along 14a? there are these little deserted towns where the limit drops from 65 to 30, that's where they got me.
I will not travel blind anymore.

That's neat, but unfortunately not available for the 1150--reservoirs are different. Also, they would be in the weather on the 1150. HARD is in the process of a redesign now.celticus wrote:This is what I have used on my R1200R for the past 5 years. V1.
