Rear Rack Suggestions

Hello...

I'm looking for a rear rack suitable for strapping down a large Wolfman Expedition Dry Duffle (28" wide). I've got the BMW luggage grid with the rack, but it's not wide enough to support the bag and the contents without bending things like tent poles. I've thought about getting a Fast Rack from Aerostich (link below) but I'd feel better with a bolt-on rack. It looks like I might be able to remove the BMW rack (which is connected to the grid by 4 screws) to bolt on something like the Fast Rack in it's place. Anyone try anything similar? I also noticed that AS Cycles rack section includes several options for GSs or even a KRS, has anyone tried adapting them to fit a roadster?

You could do what a lot of us do to adapt top cases. Remove the silver platform, trace it on a cheap plastic cutting board (or metal/alum.), which gives you a flat surface and mount any aftermarket rack you want to the top. will it fit on the passanger seat blank?

Yes, but my passenger probably won't appreciate sharing the seat I like the cutting board idea!

The board really does work well. This past winter I built a piece that extends over the cases to allow me to carry a bicycle, the cutting board and rack in general carry the load well.

cutting board system work very well. I have a top-box bolted to mine (using just 4 bolts - carrier->plate->box, with an ally plate inside the box as well) and it's absolutely fine. Those BMW OE supports are surprisingly strong. Just keep an eye on the 4 bolts that bolt the carriers to the grab-rails.
