the new 2011 "R"
Today at my dealer's I sat on, ogled, stroked, caressed, drooled on etc. a brand-new 2011 "R" in Granite Grey, with a comfort saddle and a sport screen. It was much prettier than the pictures! The darker grey wheels were closer to the color of the brake dust that dirties up my brighter silver rims, and the whole thing matched well with the Granite Grey tank, valve covers and final drive for a very integrated look. The black engine and cylinders were a nice touch, and the more robust forks looked good too. I am happy that BMW is continuing to evolve the Roadster in a good direction, while not in any way out-dating our beloved hexhead Roadsters. And while I'm still convinced I'm riding the best bike on the road today, if I crash or wheelie my 2009 into the great beyond, I certainly know what bike I'm getting to replace it: not a Duck, not a Goose, but another R1200R!
Just my opinion...

Re: the new 2011 "R"
Are they shipping granite grey in the states for the 2011 model, or is it the new colour called matt grey?
Are they actually rolling out of the showroom in the states now as I understand Bmw were going for a worldwide release in April?

It's under consideration as a 2nd bike - on the west coast (thinking about becoming bi-coastal - NTTAWWT - after retirement next month. Just have to buy an airline or something..)

I picked up my red one yesterday, starting to break it in...101 miles on it so far. This bike is like a hot knife through butter, smooth!

Re: the new 2011 "R"
Its been freezing around here but I managed to get 210 miles on the bike so far and it may warm up to the 40s by the end of the week. It was 25 when I rode on Sunday, I don't have any fancy electric gear...just bundled up like the Michelin man.
As for the break in I'm sticking to the manual <5500 rpm first few hundred miles. I'll get the first service at around 700 miles...the dealer said to wait till 1000 but that does not feel right.
