R12 Front Wheel Tool

Removing the front wheel requires a 22mm hex - not included in the stock tool kit. I made one:

Go to your local hardware store, and find a big pipe coupling that's 22mm across the flats:



The front axle recess isn't nearly that deep, so I hacksawed it in half:



Root around in toolbox and find an unused 3/8" drive socket:



Place socket in coupling half:



Spot weld and paint:



The bike's toolkit already contained a 3/8" ratchet wrench, and this addition is small and easy to carry. I'm set. Cost me a bit for the welding; I suppose could have bought a commercial tool to do this, but they were either bigger than I wanted (the one from Marc Parnes) or just uninteresting (the nice one hanging on the wall at Beemershop). I enjoyed doing it myself.

Very nice. I too made one. A little different than yours, but does the same job. If someone can explain how to post photos, I'll share my version with everyone.

Include in your post the html image link to the image you want to display; the image must be publicly available on the net to the list server. The images I linked to are on PhotoBucket; The link to the first picture above, for instance, looks like this:

Note that I have made the link in this post defective, by omitting the first opening bracket - there should be a "[" (no quotes) at the start. Had I left the bracket in place, the link would work, the server here would (again) retrieve the photo, and you wouldn't be able to see what a link looks like.

The PhotoBucket page shows me the links to each pic. I imagine other photo hosting sites do the same.

Thanks dbrick, my tool is a finnished product. I plan to hook up with a fellow R1200 rider and fabricate with him a tool of his own. When we do that, I'll take step by step photo's to create a slidshow of the process similar to your post. I'll do my best to do it this weekend.
