Need quick advice about a Long lasting battery ?

Post by thepeacebullgrunt »

Hi !

Beside Deka, Odissey or other battery's which one will stay over 12.4 Volts all the time when parked ? my original one was 12.6 to 12.8 when it was new. now if I park 24hrs it drop to 12V and since a week or two I have to ride with most of my beams off in order to help charging.

Don't own a car so I ride everyday... my original battery never failed but it is just dieing slowly as I can notice on my scorpio alarm voltmeter.

I am not an expert but I just want to write that I am less concerned by the battery that will crank the engine every morning because I never had this specific problem.

I just need a battery that will keep its power for long overtime
in regard to "intensive" and daily use of auxiliary lights and few electrical add-ons...
a battery which after a year will not need to ask the charging system to compensate as much the power load of my electrical accessories.

Thanks for reading ;)

I had a good riding friend that never (never - never) had a problem with a battery. He put in a new one every three years. If your worried about your battery, it's time to put in a new one. I like the Odyssey.

Thanks Mogu !

I just found a thread on our forum showing how to mod/install the Odyssey PC535 and I might just follow those instructions.

But according to the situation previously described to start this thread...
I'll be glad to know what battery model beside the Odyssey can "fit the bill" just fine and slide perfectly in the bike slot right out of the box ?

(Answering with my iPhone so excuse the approximate typing)

battery tender. With one, batteries last for YEARS. Without, less. Sorry for the unscientific eval but my honest opinion.

Is it possible to hook a battery tender thru the canbus? I've sifted thru several posts and I'm more confused than when I started.

If your going to use the exsisting BMW plug then you have to use the BMW battery charger (big bucks). Other option (that most of us have done) is to wire a plug directly to the battery and then connect just about any battery charger (or float) to the plug.

Wiring and plug (with fuse) for the battery, this one from Gerbings ($7.95)
I wired a similar type on my bike and then put a matching connector on my Battery tender, electric liner and the small air pump I carry with me.
