Took a test ride today WOW!!!
I took a test ride on a 2010 R1200R today and all I can say is WOW. I currently own a Suzuki M50 that I am happy with. I have had the M50 for three years now an I have put almost 21,000 miles on the bike. The M50 does not even compare to the R1200R. The brakes on the BMW are AMAZING. A little squeeze if the brake lever and the bike STOPS. It took me a while to get used to the brakes. I had to stop to figure out how to turn off the turn signal. The dealer told me that the bike likes to be run between 3500 and 5000 rpm. When I rode it the motor was very smooth even at 5000+ rpm. My Suzuki starts to get a a good vibration at 5000 rpm. Everything about the bike was amazing. I am not ready to commit to buying another bike right now but when I am ready I know the bike I am going to get. I was able to walk away with my wallet in my back pocket.

Welcome Roger,
I'm Don and I'm a test ride victim also.
As said - you're doomed. You'll be dreaming of the R12R. You'll find your Suzi unsatisfactory. It's a disease. Only cure is a walletdectomy. All of us here have gone through it. We're here to help. Here was what convinced me - a friend pointing out: (1) I'm not getting any younger - none of us are; (2) You can't take it with you; (3) No use leaving a lot of happy people when you check out, they should be sad; (4) You KNOW you are gonna do it - so just do.
Good luck with the new R1200R..

Maybe we put together a $1-a-square pool ...
Roger, don't give you long before NOTHING compares and you really wont want to ride anything else. You should NEVER, EVER, EVER, test ride one of these bikes first. That was my downfall.

Roger L,
3,500 to 5,000? The dealer must have been kidding. Wait until you try it at 8,000! My dealer waxed poetic about the R1200R's engine taking on a whole new life up around red line. Perhaps you should go back and try another test ride.

Re: Took a test ride today WOW!!!
Some practical advice:
First, wait until about 3 a.m. Then, borrow a friends vehicle with gobs of extra torque, something like this:
http://tinyurl.com/27kcgqm
Hook up several lengths of heavy chain to an ATM and slowly ease it away from its temporary berth at a bank. (Smashing any observing TV cameras is a recommended optional activity. This should be done right before hooking up the chains, just to get all the steps in the right order).
Do not stop and tarry along the way; rather directly drive straight to your closest BMW dealer. As you are motoring along, follow local speed limits and traffic control signs so as not to attract undue attention. Upon arrival, treat yourself to a cup of freshly brewed black coffee (or, if you must, green tea with soy milk) as you wait for the dealer to open. (You DID check their hours first, didn't you?) Croissants are optional.
Upon opening, it should be an easy negotiation to arrange a straight across trade between the ATM for the R1200R and your cravings will be a thing of the past. You may even has some change left over for a few farkles.
This works pretty much every time, or so I've heard.
It should be easy, really.
Or much more easy than the situation you find yourself in now.
Good luck,
Bill

Think about this: You can hold out as long as you want/are able. Nevertheless, only then will you start the nearly unbearable wait until delivery day.

My name is vodka,..and yes i am an R1200Rholic.
Sadly I have no insight and refuse to dismantle any rationalizations I construct to allow me seemingly unconstrained joy on my R1200R.
You have now joined a VERY exclusive secret society. As an associate you will think and feel that test ride again and again. Full membership is not far away. Sadly the ritual is financially akin to being held up by hooks through your chest wall. However expect to giggle while this apparent torture proceeds.
Welcome little one to a great transcendental awakening.
PS you think it goes at 5000 wait till you hit top revs .The low weight and torque ..I still remember the OH BLOODY HELL thought as I just got my L hand to the grip. I'll never ride lyrically revving this bike with one hand again.
ENJOY BROTHER! You'll buy this before Bernanke's next Monetary Easing

Your bad choice,no one else to blame.
Re: Took a test ride today WOW!!!
After one test ride I was happy to give up my Honda ST1300 for the R. Never mind the fact that I gave up 250 of weight but there is no comparison. BTW I did keep my Triumph Rocket III Touring. It's the family bike for long trips. My wife wouldn't have it any other way.

I bought mine without a test ride. But it's now the favorite material possession I've ever had in my life.

By the way, nice photo of your ride on the BMWBMW newsletter. Never imagined two years ago I'd be riding a BMW motorcycle to work.rockbottom wrote:I bought mine without a test ride. But it's now the favorite material possession I've ever had in my life.

If you are married, I think you might want to rephrase this statement to make it the second-best material possession...rockbottom wrote: But it's now the favorite material possession I've ever had in my life.

I think, if he referred to his wife as a "material" possession, she would be calling you for free advice......ka5ysy wrote:If you are married, I think you might want to rephrase this statement to make it the second-best material possession...rockbottom wrote: But it's now the favorite material possession I've ever had in my life.

Remember. It's not a $15,000 motorcycle. It's a $320 a month motorcycle.
