Fair Purchase Price '09 1200R, 2100 miles

Post by teachnsurf »

I've been eyeing 1200r's for months now and might have the opportunity to purchased a pre-owned '09 1200r with 2100 miles. Heated grips, side cases, very small wind screen, no ABS, no trip computer. Overall, the bike is in fantastic condition, from what I've seen.

Dealer is asking 14,500. I'm sure there's some wiggle room.

Can you help me get an idea of what a fair (to both sides) purchase price is?

Thanks.

Seems high, especially with no ABS. Actually, if I were in your shoes, no ABS would be a dealbreaker. I need all the insurance BMW offers.

+1 on WAY TOO HIGH! Also, having had ABS, I will not own another bike without this ... you should be able to pick up a used 2009 for right around $12 (http://bit.ly/aEgu7n)

Good luck and you will NOT regret pulling the trigger on this bike!

In Houston GCBMW had a new current R with touring package for $14.5K - assume it was a 2009 model, about 3 months ago

Way to much for a used bike - unless you are talking OTD with T,TTL and re included

Not talking OTD. It's very likely the price will come down. I'm just wondering how far down.

There are rebates to dealer on the 2009s so you should be able to get a brand new 2009 leftover for what the dealer is asking for that used one.

Also - spend a bit of time on Ebay. There are R12R's showing up frequently - usually 2 or 3 up for auction (3 at the moment..) Based on Ebay results - that's a $12k tops bike, with bags.. (the lack of ABS really does limit the market for the bike, almost all BMW riders now demand ABS on their bikes.. [there are exceptions who are certain they're faster/better then the ABS computer - Dog bless'm - they provide spare parts for the rest of us..]) And realize when you come to sell it - your potential market will be similarly limited.

Today is the one year anniversary for me and my '09 R, it's been a great year.

I got my bike new with the touring package that comes with ABS, computer, side bags and center stand and the dealer installed a small screen (no ASC) for well less than what they are asking for that used bike. I'm surprised you can even find an R in the states without ABS or a computer.

There is a nice looking (except for it being black) '08 with 1400 miles on eBay starting at 9500 with no reserve. I like how they describe it as a "Gentleman’s Sport bike".

This is pretty much the price for a new bike without ABS! I am also with the above re ABS- it's a must for me.

I’m not sure we are making this clear enough.
ABS is good and that bike is too high for a bike with no ABS. :D
Look on the Buy Sell And Trade section of this forum. There is one there now. With ABS! Sounds like a much better deal to me.

Good Luck.

Rarely use my bags. A new set is roughly $300-500; this '08 is WAY farkled.

I would not fully discount on bags alone. You could easily get bags.

I paid $11.8k for my 2009 R12R this past May. It had 1700 miles, 2-years warranty still remaining, cases, ABS, ASC, TPM, computer, heated grips, and centerstand. No tailrack or ESA. Previous owner was from Philly, and a member of this forum.

I paid his listed price since it had everything I wanted, and he was fairly local seller.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, and yes there was a lot of love. And a lot of money ! I had a prospective buyer looking at it and I did the math to everything on the bike. This is nuts...I have almost $ 4700 in farkles on the bike ! I had the 6,000 mile service done, and lowered the price to $ 11,000 ( he asked for my bottom line price ) and he offered considerably lower. If it doesn't sell by winter, I will probably put it all back to stock and have a giant farkle sale. Hate to do it, it is such a lovely bike as it sits. Instead of one person getting a great bike at a fair price, alot of folks will be offered like new, expensive farkles at a fair price. More happy people if I do that I guess.
