Okay, I've been riding my '02 RR for a couple of months now. Put about 1,500 miles on it. Had about three weeks of down time with knee surgery. I have to say, this is the finest machine I have ever owned. Now that may not be saying much since I'm a wage slave and don't generally drive Porsches and the like. But I do take good care of my vehicles and such, and this BMW is just a really fine piece of engineering. Ergonomically it is about perfect for me. The handling is, for this style of bike, superb. I love the ABS brakes. Power is plenty sufficient for me. And the darn thing just runs like a sewing machine. It just hums. And one added perk is girls like to roll down their windows and tell me, "I like your bike!" While I'm a happily married man, it still adds a bit of icing to an otherwise yummy cake. The only down side is that several playa's and rednecks have done the same thing.
Regardless, my next car is going to be a BMW.

Re: A New Owner's Observations
Everyone likes this bike. In one day last week I had a rastafarian and a guy in an X6 both tell me how much they like it. I told the rastafarian thanks and I told the guy in the X6 that I didn't realize BMW made cars or whatever you call an X6. Is it a CSHBAV? Coupe sport hatchback activity vehicle?
I asked the woman in the X6 if she wanted to ditch the tool and go for a ride.
I think it gets so many positive comments because it epitomizes everything a motorcycle should be. It's naked and mechanical, it's not a crotch rocket, it looks like something you would want to sit on for a while, it looks very high quality, it looks powerful. Classy people like Stef and dirtbags like me ride them. What more could you want?

Re: A New Owner's Observations
The guy in the X6 complimented your bike and you called him a tool and asked his girlfriend/wife to leave him?
But I do agree with you on all the reasons people like this bike. I get compliments on my black '03 R1150R several times a week, at the grocery store, gas station, work, people just love this bike. If it wasn't for the zipties, quick disconnects (which I still need to replace) and the spline issues, this would be a perfect bike. Even with those issues though, I still say it's one of the best ever made.
Now if I could just find a high seat so my knees aren't supporting my chin anymore....

I haven't had as many positive comments about my 'ride' since my yellow, 1972 VW Thing. Got one EVERYDAY on that... thing. And I can say, definitively, the R is a much safer vehicle.
