Nice ride today

Post by Kieran R1200R »

Winter here in my neck of the woods, nothing like you guys get over there in parts of the USA but cold for our standards.
I took the bike out today, rugged up on the bike and put the heated grips on high.
My bike handles really good, to the extent that it is the best handling bike I have had.
Every now and then a bike comes along that seems to slip under the radar and the R1200R is one of them.
Most people that are not familiar with the boxer wouldn't give it a second look, not until you pass them on there latest Japanese pride, and then they notice, what a good all round bike.
I rode to one of my favourite places called Lobathol. Getting there you have to negotiate a couple of hundred or so corners, ups and down dale a few sweepers and straight a challenge to excite any rider all over a distance of about 25km, a real good run.
Once you get there, there is usually plenty of other bikes that congregate at the coffee shop there that welcome all bike riders.
One thing I noticed today about riding bikes is that age holds no boundaries.
I was looking at this ZX6 and a young guy came over that was about 20 years old. Yours I said and the conversation went from there. We talked about his bike my bike, tyres, road conditions, police and on it went. Take the bikes out of it and we would have not even struk up that conversation.
I love motorcycling. Every where I have ridden a bike and stopped in some towns there is always someone that will come up to you and start talking about your bike and where you have been and heading. I think it's natural for those who have ridden and a sense of freedom for those who haven't.
All in all there's always someone who is interested.
Just thought I would share my lovely experience today.

Cheers Kieran

I'm jealous. I checked out Lobathol road via the wonder of google maps. Sweet.

I have over an hour of boring freeway to get to anything approaching a decent corner.

Sounds like a good day. Especially since you got the chance to chat up some friendly folks.
It is one of the joys of the sport.

Sounds like you had a great time! Would love to go to Australia one day and spend a couple of months riding a bike and exploring the country. Envy you!

Yes I would like to do the same with the USA.
I think that the two countries are as close as you will get for western countries.
Very little cultural differences if any, and at least there is law and order unlike the eastern countries that surround us here.
I would like to criss cross the US. The one big difference is population, I would have to get use to all those people where ever you go, unlike here. Most of the time you can have it to yourself.
Also get use to ridding on the opposite side a of the road. Sounds easy but, going through a intersection and coming out the other side and keeping right instead of left, would take alot of concentration. Would be fun though.
I have read about guys doing it. Some buy a bike from a dealer and get a buy bake price on return. I would like to buy a GSA and bring it back to OZ via ship and go with it as a working passenger.
One day!!

Rode the Lobethal Rd many times in the 70's on my honda 750/4 when i rode with the Phoenix club even got my name on a corner near Crafers one year. One of the nicest roads on a great bike -heaven. The Mt Glorius rd just west of Brisbane is another great ride . I do it a few times a year, best on a weekday though
