TomTom Rider pro

I am looking to buy a sat nav and am waiting for the new TomTom Rider Pro to be available, which should be sometime this month in the UK
Details, apart from the marketing blurb, are sketchy at present, but I have got some info back from TomTom which you may want to be aware of :

Hi. I am looking at buying the TomTom Rider Pro Europe but it seems to be only supplied with a passive mount at present. I am making the assumption that this will not allow unit charging when fitted to my motorcycle. Is or will there be an option for an active mount for this system please? Many thanks. -p

I can confirm that both the Rider Urban and the Rider Pro will come with passive mounts which do not allow for charging while on the bike. These devices can charge via a USB connection to a computer and should have a 6-8 hour battery life. I can confirm that we will be selling a separate accessory in the future which should allow for charging while on the bike however this accessory has not been released at this time.

I am not sure this is really going to work well with my camping trip in September, but is does come with a Mini USB charger but you also loose the SD memory port as well

Why don't you simply buy the Ride II which comes with the active mount. Then you won't have any of the shortcomings as mentioned in your post.

And if you'd like to install newer software/maps - no problemo man, you'll find all that stuff on the internet. Google is your friend.

Just FYI

I dont know if that version of the Tom Tom is going to be improved from the one my friend bought
recently, but it sent him on all kinds of back roads and got him lost big time, then all it would bring
up was the return trip home. He hadn't gotten where he wanted to go yet, but it wouldn't tell him
how to get there even after reprogramming.

My wife, who is good with that sort of gadget, couldn't even figure it out.

Our Garmin only had one little hiccup one time, otherwise quite accurate.

Hmmm I cannot follow that statement. My Rider always got me where I wanted. This sounds like a matter of selecting the parameters (use fastest, use shortest, avoid highways ...). Depending on the selection the Rider will guide through secondary roads/scenic routes or others. And this is no different to Garmin.
