My fuel cap is upside down

After assisting another lister with a fuel filter swap, I realized I had installed my filler cap 180 degrees out.
It's actually easier for me to fill the tank while sitting on the motorcycle with the cap in this orientation, because
the cap now opens away from me. Thought it seemed easier to gas the thing up lately.

Anybody know of any reason I can't just leave it this way?



Never noticed until today that the word LIFT is upside down either.
Maybe should go over the whole bike, double check fasteners and such.

Obviously it happened when you changed the original Allen screws for those very nice blue
ones. I don't think it will be detrimental in anyway.

Leave it. Some people have changed it for the very reason you stated.

No damage done....unless you happen to slide up on the tank with the tab open.....OUCH. If the tab was in the original position, the slide would close it down.........

Will there be less slack on the vent hoses, when it comes time to swap out the fuel filter? Can't remember...

Thanks, I didn't think it would be problem. I'll leave it.

It won't affect the vent hoses, they are attached to the brass filler neck underneath.

Probably happened when I had to change said brass filler neck. I ruined it and the
carbon canister as well, by connecting the two vent hoses incorrectly one of the first times
I pulled the tank.

Fortunately both were available on eBay.

So...where'd you come up with the nifty little allen (torx?) screws? Aircraft? Seem like I've seen screws like that at Boeing Surplus.

Many moons ago, the OEs changed the way the fuel cap opens, primarily for safety reasons. If you happen to crash and slide over the tank, there was a pretty good chance you might leave part of you on the tank if it happened to flip open during an 'exit' (for guys, I can only imagine it being a painful deal). That's the only reason I have ever heard, of the door opening up the way it does.
