Re: Rick Mayer is a fraud
My seat is a solo, but I guess someone could ride there if necessary....but they sure wouldn't enjoy it. Ka5ysy's seat is a dual seat....you can see how it has wings on the backseat, though not as pronounced as the drivers seat. I never ride that bike with a passenger, so it's no big deal for me.

Great, thanks for letting me know. How do you like the leather? It sure looks great, but what if you get caught in the rain?gezerbike wrote:My seat is a solo, but I guess someone could ride there if necessary....but they sure wouldn't enjoy it. Everything about the seat is top notch, including the leather. On all my leather, including jackets and pants, I condition once or twice a year with Lexol. As for the rain thing, well, I've never seen a farmer bring in his cows if it's raining outside, and I have pretty much followed that rule.

My seat is also a solo. I have had it slightly altered in the passenger pad for my wife's comfort. There was only so much that could be done because there was only so much leather to work with. If I had bought it new I would have had It made for a passenger but I bought it back in 2007 from an internet acquaintance and didn't have that choice.

Lexol is in most shoe shops in San Francisco and, of course, online. (Please, please let's not start a best leather dressing thread to match the best motor oil thread!)
If the leather's dressed well, rain shouldn't hurt it if it's allowed to dry slowly. The problem is the holes in the stitching can let water into the foam where mold can grow, especially if the bike is left standing the in the rain and it pools in the crevices.
Russell Day Long supplies a nylon waterproof cover with elastic edges that I always carry with me. Slips on quickly and really keeps the seat dry.

My seat is specifically set up for two-up riding. Boss says it is a huge improvement over the stock torture rack.hjsbmw wrote: These look like great saddles you have there. I gather they are both Rick Mayer. Which models? It seems ka5ysy's has a larger passenger section. Does that mean it's a dual model and gezerbike's seat, which seems narrower in the back, is a single?

Passenger comfort is where my main point of critique for the stock seat lies. I'll consult with the boss then about potential material acquisition...ka5ysy wrote:My seat is specifically set up for two-up riding. Boss says it is a huge improvement over the stock torture rack.

I have no opinion about Rick Mayer. I don't know him nor have I sat on one of his seats. I do have plenty of opinions about why a custom seat is probably the most important investment you can make in your bike. It's all documented in this video that I did a couple years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vOxKm8aoVk

On thing I forgot to mention previously, is that the seat is a major improvement for the driver also: It prevents the passenger from sliding forward into you, making for a more comfortable ride on both ends of the saddle(s). I can also assure you that her first ride will result in a complete agreement on the funds expended. It is literally transformational in comfort.hjsbmw wrote:Passenger comfort is where my main point of critique for the stock seat lies.
