2007 R12R
Just bought a 2007 R1200R, coming from a '71 Norton so the change is incredible. Aside from shifting on the wrong side and having far more buttons than I am used to I need some help with basic functions. Does anyone know where I can download the riders manual? I would have thought that this would be easily accessible from the BMW website but I can't seem to find one there or anywhere online. I have the service manual but just need some basic info.
The bike is great fun to ride for the short time I've had it. Right now it's an ice storm so it is sitting up in the barn

Poor guy's made 1 post and already (and only, I might add) two "try searching" responses.
Welcome to the board, sir. Since you've received a free owner's manual and will undoubtedly receive many thousands of dollars in free advice in the next few months, perhaps you should be pre-emptive and pony up for a membership - before Chitown makes one of his scathing 'freeloader' speeches...
Now all you need to feel like a veteran is somebody mocking your choice of oil...
Or telling you off IN ALL CAPS...
Or saying 'this thread is worthless without pictures' when you're too lazy to post one...
(ps: you can search the forum to find out how to post pictures - just sayin')
Enjoy your stay, and your bike. I think you'll be comfy here in no time!

Also, I think you may be a contender for the "Understatement of the Year Award"jontexter wrote:Just bought a 2007 R1200R, coming from a '71 Norton so the change is incredible.

Re: 2007 R12R
When I got back into riding BMWs my (new to me then) wife and I took a ride on my (also new to me) 82 R100RS and after an hour or so she said "Wow this thing just keeps going and going!"
"What do you mean" I asked.
"Well my ex-husband had a Norton and every time we'd go riding it would just quit. He'd get off and mess with it and mess with it for a long time then it would for no reason just start again."
"None of that with THIS bike" I said "It's a BMW" .
Nortons sure were pretty though.
Welcome to a better world jontexter.

What is happening to my skin?

Thanks for the help with the manual. I'll post some pics when I can get the bike outside. I've ridden Brit bikes for 40 years so owning one that doesn't leak makes me nervous, how do you know if there is oil in it?
and the lights actually work, very strange!

Look under the seat it may be there.

I came from a 1999 Triumph Sprint ST and it did not leak, so I was never sure it really was a Triumph, though the headlights were crap.jontexter wrote:Thanks for the help with the manual.
