High mileage 1150R question

Post by Rockosmith »

I have a 2004 R1150R with 86000 miles on it. It has been trouble free with the exception of a driveshaft at 65000 miles. I intend to keep this bike another year or two and need to be as sure as one can be of its continued dependability. I intend to pull the transmission this winter to check clutch condition, replace the rear main engine seal, replace the clutch slave cylinder, and lube all the splines. Is there something I am missing?

My '04 has 85k miles and I wasn't planning on doing any of those things. Let us know what you find.

I have just over 40k on My 04', and I have checked My clutch splines @ 24k, and was planning on tearing it down again this winter. In 86k have You changed the clutch, or experienced final drive failure? I see you said the driveshaft was replaced, what failed?

The only thing I have replaced on my 86K '04 was a driveshaft at 65000 mi. The front u-joint got real tight, noticed while rotating the rear wheel by hand while on the center stand. The clutch is original. I did replace the paralever bearings with bushings at 50K because an article in the MOA ON magazine indicated they were prone to failure. I think it is probably time to look at the clutch and slave cyl.
