K75 to R1200R

Has anyone made the switch from a K75 to an R1200R?

Reading this forum has convinced me that I would love the R12.

However, whenever I have talked with a former K75 rider, they always finish up by saying "I never should have sold that K75!".

Since I would have to sell my 1995 K75 to help fund the R12, this has become a big decision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bruce, I purchased an R1200R in April after 21 years of owning a K75s. Fortunetly I was able to keep my K75. While I love the K75 and will not sell it, the R does just about everything better. Keept the K if you can, if not trade up you won't regret it, Brian

I sold THE K75S - and ended up with an R1200R - I sold the K75S because I never wanted to ride it again. Top-heavy, slow about describes it. People think they should have kept the K75 - and there are some people who won't ride anything else, but the R12R is a far superior bike. Things are usually better in retrospect than in reality.

I have never owned a K75 but I have ridden several.
I can't imagine what they mean by " I never should have sold my K75" I was not impressed at all. Kind of like an electric bike. To each his own I reckon. They DO seem to be reliable though.

My wife has had a K75RT for the last six years and has really enjoyed it. We bought an '07 R1200R for her this summer because we realized that the K75 was too tall for her and was also top heavy.

She really loves the new bike. Just about every time she rides it she comments to me about how nimble it is compared to her old bike, and that it is FAST. We are still sorting out windshield issues, as the wind protection is nowhere near what it was on the other bike, but she is getting to like a little extra air when it is hot out.

Take a R1200R for a test ride and see what you think. The handling is much better than the K75, and it is way more powerful (no more downshifting when going up those mountain passes).

My daughter and son-in-law traded her Ducati Monster and his K75RT for a new R1200R just a few months ago. Since there is a new baby and they can't ride together, they are sharing the R bike and they both absolutely love it. The K75, nice bike though it is, is a dog by comparison. The R1200R is lighter, faster, a much better handler and with the low seat, both of them are short, they much prefer the ergonomics of their new bike. Buy the new bike, you will not regret it.

Moved from an '87 K75T to an '07 R1200R in the spring of '07 and don't regret it an instant.

The K75 was a fine, smooth, machine, but the upgrade in technology (Telelever, Paralever, ABS etc. etc.), power and handling was well worth the move.

Looking forward to another couple of hundred thousand km's!

I had a K75S in the early-mid 90's. For the most part the R12R is better but I've got to admit I liked the easy spinning K motor, especially the transistion off idle. The multi cylinder, medium size motor had a nice smooth quality - like a good car motor. The R12R is nice and smooth once you get it past 3k rpm at light throttle openings but pulling away from a dead stop it's got a little Harley feeling with the big piston, big flywheel, 2 cylinder feel. It vibrates a little more than I'd like above half throttle. The K75 was pretty slow, even back then.

Thanks everybody for your recommendations.

I have taken your collective words for it and ordered a 2010 R1200R in Biarritz Blue. Whether or not blue really is the fastest color doesn't matter to me. You see my K75 was always faster than I needed, and I now have been given to understand that it is a slug, albeit a smooth running one.

My new roadster is scheduled for production in November 09, week 47.

Talk about feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas!
