Wanting a R1200R
I have been lurking for a few days now. I have developed a craving for a BMW. I was originally looking at the Buell Uly and ended up buying the XR1200 last March. While I enjoy this bike, it seems to be missing some of the things I originally wanted a new bike for. I really wanted a do it all bike. I thought I would love the hot rod bike (loud) because I grew up with muscle cars. I have come to realize that I like the quiet and smooth. I will probably have to wait out until the spring to make a move since finances will be in order then. Until then, I will quietly lurk around and bide my time. Hope you don't mind.

Talk to me. We might be able to work out a trade for my 2008 R12R.

I don't mind you lurking. The XR sounds cool but there is real life too and that's where the R1200R is your good friend. Stick around.

The XR is a nice offering from HD, but a tool for a different job. DaleK has a great bike and used r12's are nicely priced making for a super value, may take away the hit/sting from trying to move your XR so close to the initial purchase too.
Good luck, the r is a fantastic bike!

Thanks for all of the advice. I will research and decide in the spring.

Since I bought my R1200R, I hardly ride my HD Lowrider. Once you ride the R12, you'll never go back. Both are good bikes, HD for riding with the boyz, Bmw for RIDING!.

Re: Wanting a R1200R
I had an XR1000 a few year ago. Dual carbs, high pipes. It actually used the XR750 heads on the standard Sportster bottom end. All the heads were ported by Jerry Branch. The handling was pretty hopeless but the motor was cool.

That is pretty cool. It would be nice to have a collection, but I realize now that I need an all around bike. Maybe when my kids are grown that will be different, but for now I am okay with that.
