Brake Pad Poll..What Brand do you use?

Post by Sunbeemer »

It's time to replace my front brake pads after 31,000 miles of mostly urban riding. The rear pads still have a ways to go.
So what are you trusting your life to, OEM BMW? EBC? Carbone-Lorraine? Sixity? Unknown E-bay brands?
What stops you cold, hot, wet, or dry?

EBC recommends their sintered FA294 HH for the front for street riding.
Are BMW front pads (in the so-called, "green kit") sintered?
I am wondering if they wil wear the rotor more than stock pads... :?: :?:

I recall BMW specifying different pad for ABS calipers, is this just a BS so they can insure you use OEM parts instead of after market? Can you use any name brand pads for ABS or non ABS models?

I don't know if ABS requires different pads, since I do not have ABS.

I know many people do use other-than-BMW branded brakes, and hope this poll will determine which ones are most used, and whether or not they are any good. Hopefully it could be a good resource for others making this decision in the future.

Specific questions I have about other-than-BMW brake pads are:
1. Do they fit?
2. Do they stop?
3. Do they accelerate wear of rotors?
4. How long do they last compared to the BMW brand?

Please feel free to chime in to help make this a decision-making resource for future brake buyers!

I still have the originals at about 50k miles. I try not to use them very often. I did buy a set of EBC rear pads, but I don't need to install them yet.

I use Lucas sintered brake pads ...

Excellent pads which have been voted best together with brembo pads in a comparison test compiled by "Das Motorrad" (leading German motorcycle publication).

From my experience, the BMW pads seem to last longer and cost more. I think in the end they work out the same (at least for me). I seem to go through two sets of aftermarket brakepads compared to the BMW set, which cost twice as much.

I've heard others say this, and have found this to be the case with my Toyota too. Interesting!
