R1200R Generic & local matters

I can TOTALLY understand the desire to share info from all four quarters of the globe regarding our preferred ride.

Particularly when it comes to technical issues, farkles and experiences. If BMW wants to market worldwide then it must meet that market and all its +'s and -'s .

On the other end we are all a bit parochial as we want to know what is happening in our own part of the world.

When I had a R1200GS there was the general forum for each model and a 'regional' forum for each country on ADV rider.

Does the webmaster of this forum think that a similar approach might advance the information exchange?

I for one want to know about experiences all over the world involving the R1200R but also want to know who's doing what with who, how & why in my own backyard (Australia).

That way we can think & experience virtual global, act local and meet social as & when we choose.

Personally - I don't like the idea. ALL of us have learned things from people not near our local area. Having messages split into numerous subforums means you have to dig deeper to see info you can now see in one forum. Probably only 30 people post regularly in the R12R forum.. if you split it up, you could end up with people talking to only themselves.

It appears you joined about a week ago, and have something like 23 posts. I think you might hold back a bit on redesigning the forum until you are a tad better aquainted with it. My suggestion - if you want to do something regional - put the region/country/county/state/city/block and lot number/whatever in the title of your thread. Then if people are interested - they can open it and see what's up.

I'm OK with that suggestion.

I don't want to break anything up. I think we all came here to share information to do with bikes and some things to do with life.

My suggestion was merely an attempt for people reasonably accessible to each other to touch base and if that works take it from there.

For instance by another thread seeking to meet up with 'locals' I met 3 other guys on R1200R's this morning and we all agreed that that was a bonus.

I'm still intending to read the forum regularly and no doubt will learn a lot. I may also end up with a few new ride buddies.

I enjoy the current format. It's interesting to hear about the local issues from around the world.

For a regional discussion, for example, I created a Great Wet North thread in Group Rides. Good for the details that might be a bit too much for this board.
