Remove Center Stand?
Hi Folks!
I'm thinking about removing the center stand from my R1100R, but first, a question...
Is it safe to lift the bike with a (proper) jack under the oilpan?
Thanks!
Dave

Re: Remove Center Stand?
That is no problem providing you put some wooden plate underneath the oilpan. But you don't need a lift to remove your center stand ... And for maintainance purposes it is not ideal to lift the bike under the oilpan as the bike will not have the necessary stability. It would be best to have a workshop lifter. I have the one seen on this site (http://www.becker-technik.de/). Check out the yellow picture in the first row showing a R1100S with the same lifter I have.

What about the traffic light sensors? Won't they be triggered even less after removing the iron stand?dbuffington wrote: I'm thinking about removing the center stand from my R1100R

Traffic light sensor??? Related to the center stand??? That posting does not make any sense ... And if you look at the initial post from Dave you can see that the question was different ...

Well actually this does make sense for induction operated traffic light sensors. Some of them hardly detect my R11R. Riding without center stand will not improve this.omg1010 wrote:Traffic light sensor??? Related to the center stand??? That posting does not make any sense

Re: Remove Center Stand?
Hmmm that sounds really strange. My R1100R has no center stand and also does not have the bulky catalytic converter where the center stand normally sits and I never had any problems at any traffic lights in central Europe. Hence I doubt very much that the metal saving by removing the center stand or the exhaust will cause traffic lights not to react to the remaining metal of the bike. I have this effect with my carbon fiber mountain bike sometimes but never with my oilhead ...

What about maintainence w/o stand--much harder. What about a flat tire on the road? The two cylinders will have oil sitting in them unequally--every day for years. The tires have weight on them without relief.
I don't know how many of these concerns are important, but some may be.

Re: Remove Center Stand?
Hi Steve,
removing the center stand doesn't make sense - only if someone is serious in reducing the overweight of the oilhead and searches for every 100 grams. But even without center stand a flat tire shouldn't be an issue with the kit which came with the bike. And if that kit doesn't help the center stand will also not help. And the oil level should also not be an issue as there are many modern bike which don't have a center stand (I had to remove mine because of a different exhaust system and so far I have had no issues ...).
Kind regards
Oliver

Re: Remove Center Stand?
Hi Oliver!
Sorry for the slow response! I was unexpectedly hospitalized, but all is well now, especially since I'm back on the bike
The Becker lift looks perfect. Anyone know of a U.S. source?
Thanks!

Hi Dave,
hope nothing serious. Good that you're back on your feet! Wunderlich also sells such a tool (http://www.wunderlich.de/frame.php?prod ... oupid=2228) which might be easier to find.
Kind regards
