Anyone have Ohlins?

i'm thinking about improving the suspension on my r12r. perhaps it's that i came from supersport bikes, perhaps it's the slightly different telelever feel, perhaps it's the extra weight of the bike, but the front suspension is lacking for me - harsh at low speed but a bit 'bouncy' at higher speeds. i mean, it's competent, but not confidence-inspiring for me in bumpy corners.

anyway, i was wondering if anyone had ohlins on their r12r and what the process was like in getting it. if there are other, cheaper, suspension improvements i could do i'd love to, but with the single front shock i know it's limited. did anyone have their front shock rebuilt and it turned out excellent?

Wes, I put Ohlins on my R and I could tell the second that I dropped it down from the center stand that my bike had been transformed. The tele still feels different than forks, I can tell that every time I switch from bike to bike. But the R now feels like it rides on rails and is solidly planted, it does not wallow (never was real bad) and goes exactly where I point it. Having said that I'll let you know I the proud owner of some 1/2 inch wide chicken strips, I'm really not what you'd call an aggressive rider, more of sport type.

I believe there are a couple of others that stop by this site that also have Ohlins and their input has been positive. Don E has done some significant work with the US distributor of Wilbers on his bike, so do a search for that. He has been quite pleased with them as well. Good luck

Hi ,anyone know of issues with Ohlins on front and stock left on rear.???.I have ESA and prob couldnt hook that in with Ohlins on back.

I have Ohlins and love them. They are a bit tricky to get set up correctly, but one you do they are really nice.

I find it VERY interesting that EPM will do group-buy discounts; the current one for the FJRs is 25% ... if enough people are interested, this could be worth pursuing.

So ... I for one am interested in HyperPro aftermarket shocks for my R1200R.

You may want to give Ted Porter's BeemerShop a call and ask Ted to compare Wilbers with Ohlins. (He sells both). I found him to be very knowledgeable and willing to share. (It was clear that I was willing to buy!)

After weighing my options, I chose the Wilbers and the more expensive model at that, because they met my particular needs. Another week or so, they should be here from the Vaterland.

I'm sure Hyperpro's are very good, but I wanted someone local to me to install the shocks and Beemershop does that and will change out my bald tires at the same time. All for the mere cost of a new VW when I was growing up!

Bill - local support is a good thing.

Some history - the guy who designed Wilbers (originally called TechnoFlex I believe - and Benny Wilbers was hired to manufacture them, and somehow - just somehow took the design and put his name on them), later designed the HyperPro shocks. Many of the parts are directly interchangeable between the shocks (Klaus at EPM was the original US Wilbers importer until he and Benny had a parting of the ways - but he has parts for both, and has been known to mix/match for something very custom.. but I digress..) The same chap then was hired by YSS (and may be a partner in YSS), and he designed their shocks.

Sort of not much new under the sun.. Klaus and YSS will be coming out with suspension for the R12R, I expect my bike will be the test-mule for it (but the HyperPro is going back on when done - I have it well sorted out, and it's delightful..)
