full size left case?
Hi, i'm relatively new here and just acquired a 2004 R 1150 R. Love it! but i have a few questions... i just pulled the oem muffler off for that nice deeper sound but i'm wondering about getting a case that's full size. i believe i saw someone post something about these. anybody know where to get one and how much it will set me back?

Most people don't do what's right, they do what's most convenient and then repent

thanks for the info, i'll look around.

Ouch; new inner case (you can recycle the lid and locks) is US$300 new. Part number 46-54-2-317-611.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Re: full size left case?
ouch indeed! that's what i expected. I can afford to own a BMW motorcycle, but the maintenance/parts is another story!

Have you check chicagoBMW? you get 20% off the advertised price, may help the sting somewhat...
The system cases are so useful I just decided to bite the bullet and buy them. Much better than most other brands I've ever seen. Sometimes they are for sale by owner but rarely at much of a discount that I've seen.

Re: full size left case?
I ride thousands of miles with the smaller left case-whats the big deal? I also use a top case and a Roadgear Euro Jumbo hauler and more if camping - a few cubic inches matters very little unless your going that way $ wise anyway.
Re: full size left case?
It is great to have a left full case if there is a need to store 2 helmets at anytime ... just thinking.

May depend on your helmet. My size large Arai Quantum/F has to be rustled all around to go in the side case. Sometimes I don't think it's going to go.bikermeow wrote:It is great to have a left full case if there is a need to store 2 helmets at anytime ... just thinking.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
Re: full size left case?
I don't ride really long trips pillion and have a top case that will hold two. If I am going in a place for eating,dr appt., etc., I carry in my helmet and don't bother to store it. If I were on a hike , I'd store it or leave with a store keeper for safe keeping. When I am loading my sidecase liners I sometimes have to do a doubletake to be sure which is which with the "thing sticking out" on one side as the giveaway.
Re: full size left case?
The full sized left case is a big gain. I rode at least 20,000 miles with the OEM 'castrated' left case, and when I finally upgraded, there's no way I can go back. The additional room is like closet space - you can never have too much!kantuckid wrote:I ride thousands of miles with the smaller left case-whats the big deal? You can do it on the 'cheap' by looking for a used case. Now that the R1200 models are the current model, I think system case demand has gone down. I think I paid $100 for a used full size left 'base' from my dealer, then I used my lid and lock tumbler. In commuting mode, I put the city lids on and it's perfect. Camping/road trip I put the standard lids on - perfect!

Re: full size left case?
I did the same as John (above) but got the big inside part from BeemerBoneyard and switched the lock mechanism and cover from the smaller case. You can find those periodically at used parts places...or a dealer might have one from a trade-in bike or wrecked bike.
Don't tell anybody....(as he looks around carefully)...but I may be selling both my cases and the inside portion of the smaller case, here pretty soon....as in a few weeks. I'm holding out to see if I need them for a last ride on the Roadster this summer. If/when I DO sell them, the price is gonna be "dirt cheap"..I mean DIRT cheap. Around here anyway, real estate is expensive if it stays put, but dirt is CHEAP!
