Touring Screens
I have just purchased the BMW Touring Screen. Dang that thing is LOUD. Is the Parabellum 23in screen any better?
Re: Touring Screens
Try the Sport screen. The smaller I went on screens the better it got.
The Cee Bailey's Sport may be good too. Shorter, but a little wider.

The touring screen is very loud, I have one and use the laminar lip with it, you will cut out a lot of the noise and buffeting if you use the lip. I wouldn't use the touring screen without it.

Re: Touring Screens
A fairly easy and cheap fix is to use rubber spacers between the upper mounts and the windshield. You'll need longer screws, but they're easy to find at any hardware store. The ones I settled on are approximately 3/4" thick and change the angle of the shield enough to deflect the airflow to the top of my helmet, which makes a huge difference by eliminating the turbulence and noise at the face shield level.

Re: Touring Screens
I have the touring screen installed as well. it gives pretty good weather protection but as you say it's noisy and I get buffeting in traffic. I bought the Sport screen last summer. I'm 5'10 and I get a lot of airflow pushing me with the sport screen. It looks cool and I kind of like it around town in warm weather but I don't see how guys tour with them, I start getting tired after about 30 minutes behind it. I am going to buy the 21.5 inch Cee Baileys touring screen with the european cutout on top. It's a little wider and a little taller than BMW's so hopefully it will be better. Your helmet is also a factor in the noise. I have a Arai Quantum F which combined with the screen gives off various howls inside. I always wear earplugs. Looks are somewhat of an issue for me. Sorry brothers, but the Laminar Lip looks tacked on. I'm going to buy the Cee Baileys screen in double dark tint. It should look decent and perhaps give me the airflow I want. Vanity perhaps, but I have never liked the shape of the Parabellum. I have heard good reports about their Scout fairing, but the thing is pretty expensive. I suppose the airflow issue is one reason RR owners fall over into the dark side, (KRS, RT, LT or even worse things) and buy a faired bike.SpeedwayRN wrote:I have just purchased the BMW Touring Screen. I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
Re: Touring Screens
Where did you get the spacers? I assume the go on the backside (rider's side) of the screen so they angle the screen more up and less back toward the rider.ruddy wrote:A fairly easy and cheap fix is to use rubber spacers between the upper mounts and the windshield. Re: Touring Screens
I found some slightly tapered black rubber plugs at the hardware store that were an inch across at the smaller end. They were too long, so I used a fine-toothed hacksaw to shorten them to 3/4". I then drilled a hole through the center for the mounting screws. The 1" end matches the diameter of the mounts and the slightly wider end goes against the windshield. They look good and the windshield is mounted very solidly.cswett wrote:Where did you get the spacers? Re: Touring Screens
Lots of discussion on this and other forums re the BMW touring and sports screens. I had the touring screen on my '04 R1150R and it is somewhat noisy, but I don't get the buffeting that many complain about. I'm 5' 9" and have a short torso. I used the touring screen on two trips from CA to Alaska, and lived to tell the tale, but I always wear ear protection. Last year I put on a CEE Bailey sport screen. This is similar to the BMW sport screen but without the point. It is wider at the top with a slight dip in the center. It is 14 1/2" from the headlight cutout to the top center and 16" to the corners. It doesn't have quite the rain protection of the touring screen, but I found it very comfortable last summer on a long ride from CA to West Virginia and back. I'm considering leaving it on for a return to AK this summer rather than reinstalling the touring screen. Of course YMMV depending on your size, shape, and what you consider comfortable enough. FWIW my two riding companions have no complaints with the stock screens on their R1200RTs. (smile)
