R1150R brake pads-best choice?
I'm ready for some brake pads-I don't want HH pads but looking for advice from your experience.

Put Carbone Lorraine on the back (sintered). They perform real well, were reasonably priced, but look like they're wearing a little faster than the OEM versions. Well, I should say the inboard pad is wearing faster.
Next time, I'm going to give EBC a go.

I'm on my second set of EBC rear pads, the organinc, not the HH. They last about 14k between changes. The front pads at 30k have never needed replacement. I believe the fronts are sintered. I have heard the front discs are harder than the rear disc and that would seem to be true. I never use the foot brake except when puttering through filling stations. The way I have hammered the brakes on occasion, I supect the organics wouldn't last long on the front. Have you noticed any wear on the rear disc using the sintered pads ?The Velvet Monkey wrote:Put Carbone Lorraine on the back (sintered). I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.

FA294HH, outstanding stopping power. Just changed my rear to a Brakin' Disc. Why not HH, if I may ask?kantuckid wrote:they make several types-which have you used???
Re: R1150R brake pads-best choice?
My understanding of HH is that they are better when used in a racing application under repeated high temperature braking. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Re: R1150R brake pads-best choice?
I only use HH because they are touted as better stopping power, it is a safety thing for me. I would use the non-HH if it is just as effective. Any adverse effect of using HH? See, it is an education for me
Re: R1150R brake pads-best choice?
I'm learning. Go to www.dp-brakes.com for a good commentary on the different kinds they offer, including HH. Also read the history of the company for more about friction materials as used in disc brakes. I am still left wondering if the only compromise with HH vs. regular sintered is life of the pad and rotor? With cars I always made the deduction that a little brake dust was better than a lot of $ for rotors and the same for bikes too. There are also the full out pads mentioned there that obviously have a heat requirement that exceeds normal street use to be more effective.
I posted the same question on the BMWMOA Forum and have had one response that sort of chastized me over a question re: the Chinese pads for sale on eBay -actually it wouldn't surprise me if they were making BMW's pads.

Re: R1150R brake pads-best choice?
I have run several sets of EBC "organic" or Kevlar rear pads both on an 03 and now on an 04. The term "organic" used to refer to asbestos pads as I understand it. I went to the organic to make life easier on my rotors (and my wallet). They typically lasted from 12K to 16K on the rear. I had no problems with them at all other than the short life span which I am willing to live with in return for longer rotor life (I hope).

You know, sintered pads do apparently wear the disk out faster, but I sure haven't noticed it and I've checked.Airman wrote:Have you noticed any wear on the rear disc using the sintered pads ?
