STAYS AT 130MPH
call me foolish but i had to find out if my 2002 R1150R would make the 150mph as indicated on the speedometer, it got to 130mph and no further.anyone knows why i can't get those extra
20 mph,,,by the way my experiment was done at a race track.

Re: STAYS AT 130MPH
I think you did real well to get 130. I don't think mine would, and from what I read from others, 125 as indicated on the GPS is about it. I think the R1100S might make 150 as there's the fairing and more horsepower, but not the RR.djembe22 wrote:call me foolish but i had to find out if my 2002 R1150R would make the 150mph as indicated on the speedometer, it got to 130mph and no further.anyone knows why i can't get those extra

I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
Re: STAYS AT 130MPH
Yeh, that 130 indicated is probably about 117 after correcting for speedometer error.

Sure. It's simple math. Top speed is a function of drag coefficient and horsepower and some other numbers. As the speed increases, the horsepower required to overcome the drag increases exponentially.djembe22 wrote:...anyone knows why i can't get those extra 20 mph
The drag coefficient on your naked R is way too high for the available horsepower. 120-130 is all she'll do.

One of those other numbers is, no doubt, weight. There's no way that my R is going to haul my 300 pound assTrout wrote:Sure. It's simple math. I had mine up to 130 on speedo, but 122 or gps.NoRRmad wrote:Yeh, that 130 indicated is probably about 117 after correcting for speedometer error.
There was room on the throttle for more, and I didn't look to see my rpms--how close I was to redline.

Re: STAYS AT 130MPH
It is all aerodynamics, and HP. But aero is our main limiting factor. Weight doesn't make that big of deal compared to the aerodynamics of your body. Wide body means more drag.

Bald guys go faster then those with a full head of hair. Better aerodynamics---less wind drag.

Re: STAYS AT 130MPH
ALL speedos are printed up to a larger number than the bike can achieve to prevent too much error creeping in.
it is EXTREMELY hard to get a speedo "off the end of the scale", without major mods to the bike.
That said - I've done it.

CBR400RRSP (Gull Arm BabyBlade - my mum's bike), we put a gearbox in the speedo drive to convert it to show miles instead of kilometres (it's a jap market import) and I once got if off the end of the scale. Double impressive given that the bike is standard and it was carrying all my bike tools in a set of panniers!!

Re: STAYS AT 130MPH
The only way you're going to get it to 150 mph is to go to your local airport, load the bike in a plane, climb to 5000 ft., open the door and SHOVE IT OUT!!!
It should reach the 150 mph mark quite quickly.
I wish manufacturers would use speedometers that didn't have unrealistic high MPH readings. My Miata speedo goes to 150 too, but I haven't found a plane big enough to see if it would really go that fast.

Might as well face it...I'm addicted to motorcycles... Might as well face it...
