Autocom Installation r1200R 07

Post by simonwheeler »

Has anyone any experience of installing an autocom system? Particularly in regard to where to connect the red power cable. My understanding is that it should be wired into the red and yellow lead that goes into the aux power socket. If this is correct what is the best way of accessing that lead? Or is there an easier access point to power? (Im advised that connecting direct from the positive terminal in the battery is not ideal as the power to the unit is then permanently on)

any ideas?

There are several ways to get switched power for an Autocom. The factory GPS power lead ( do a search here for the specifics) You can also tap into the accesory outlet, that's easy and close to the seat area. If you do that I recommend adding a Powerlet outlet to charge battery etc and just disconnect the factory outlet, but tap into it for power.

I'm talking a little out of school here, as I don't have an R12 (yet). But, my plans are to add an auxiliary fuse panel and run all electrics including a re-wire of the accessory outlet off of that, so that I don't get waylaid by CanBus foibles. Do a search for Blue Seas and you'll get some information on that particular product. Now, what I did with my Autocomm was to build it into the floor of the tankbag, with an SAE plug on the back of the bag for the power lead. The lead itself is fused, so it operates independently of the bike's electrical system.
Honey? How many bikes am I allowed to have?

Here is a site with info for a distribution block/power relay.

I'm in the same situation wanting to wire in my Autocom and I'll have a go at this.

This site shows how wire things in with a relay.

I've been putting off doing this job for months but I must make a start on it.
