Coocase S48 on an OEM R1150R Luggage Rack ?

Post by jsoque »

Has anyone installed a Coocase S48 Astra Topcase on their R1150R?

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... /4417/246/

I was wondering if Coocase's mounting plate can be
mounted directly onto the OEM luggage rack of an R1150R.

It saves some $ and not having to purchase a secondary
luggage rack, such as a SR683 from Givi, ($147) then mounting
the Coocase mounting plate to that.

My R1150R already has a luggage rack on her, and I
have System Cases mounted in place.

Thanks,
Jim

You need (most of) the Givi rack for the S48. The only part of the Givi rack you don't install is the toilet-seat looking thing that's used for a Givi trunk. The Coocase has it's own mounting plate that goes on the Givi rack instead of the toilet seat, The S48 mounting plate won't work with the OEM tailpiece (I'm talking about the narrow silver one) without some sort of modification, plus it would be very weak.

I currently have the S48 and I've owned the JC Whitney box. The JC is adequate but I wouldn't own another or "recommend to a friend"... no offense meant. The Coocase is superior. I have the remote locking option, brake lights and inner-liner. I thought the remote was a gimmick but I use it all the time and like it a lot. I don't even have to take the keys out of the ignition and I can still pop the trunk. The brake lights on the S48 are a little weak (two single LEDs) but better than nothing.

The old adage...There is no end to the money you can spend. I try to think I spend as little as possible. My wife thinks otherwise.

Thanks Twempie, Thanks OU812.

I agree, Givi Rack is Strong, and stronger is better!
...especially as a back rest consideration for 2-up.

In a few weeks, mine will look just like yours Twempie.
