Pictures Installation of Hella auxiliary lights

Hello everyone, here are the pictures of the installation fo Hella FF50 Lights on the 2004 R1150R. We decided to place the lights under the oil coolers (thanks nonskid). At first I was reluctant to make holes on a OEM part, but at the end, in my opinion, under the coolers it maintains the roadster look of the bike while giving good light performance. I read several posts about connecting the lights to the high beam, or the switch to the signal cancel buttom, but I decided to connect them directly so no dependencies or messing around with cables. Next weekend I will connect the installation to the ACC cable so the lights only turn on when the bike is on.

Good pictorial of your installation, and a very nice looking result =D> =D> . Those PIAA's throw a lot of light for much better visibility at night, and you will be seen by others better also. That mounting location gives a good "triangle of lights" that will help observers get a better perspective of your distance and closing speed. I am surprised at how much light floods the ground beside your bike (shown in the last picture). Must be kinda cool to see the road going under you at night!

I was wondering how hot the lights get, either from their own bulbs or from being mounted so near the header pipes?

Uh...those are Hella FF50's, not PIAA's. The FF50's are much less expensive, use a more easily found bulb, and in the foglight pattern I utilized on my installation (identical to the EXCELLENT photos in this post) throw a nice wide pattern of light with a distinct upper beam cutoff pattern. No heat problems, but then I live in the cool Puget Sound region, YMMV.

Hella's .. , correct, it gives a definetely better visibility. Mostly on this dark Venezuelan roads. The paint of the road lines is not reflectant (is that the word??:?) so it really helps to see the complete road left and right. Trying to avoid surprises.

:lol: :lol: I thought the same!!!! I'll point my bike camrecorder in that direction at night and post the result :):)

Very, very, very hot. The bulb is ok, which was my first concern, because the inside part of the cover is prepared for it. My second concern was about the plastic cover on the outside, but it seems to be ok after these past few days of city driving. I am thinking of preparing some sort of metal protection... we'll see.

Back in '02 I had installed PIAA 1400 fogs under my oil cooler for much the same reasons.
From a distance all three lights make a nice 'triangle' of light. Very visible.
