Battery change problem

Post by beemerbrad »

I changed the battery on my 2004 r1150r (10k mi.) today and am having a problem which I believe is vacuum in nature. Fuel lines and fuel pump connection are good. Its the breather hoses that have me stumped. I disconnected to remove tank when I went to reconnect I seem to have a hose that goes nowhere. One goes to the charcol filter And the other is vacant. I have two other smaller hoses wit the ends cut at an angle that I believe are water drip from the tank and the other from the battery. Can someone give me a hose management lesson. The bike starts fine but idles rough and will die without throttle. thanks brad

Welcome... not sure I understand your question completely... but we've all been there... done that...

When you take your tank off it will have four hoses attached to it, the two large one's for gas, and two vacuum sized hoses. Open up you gas cap. See the little hole on the rim? It's about 1/8" diameter. Blow into one of the vacuum sized hoses hooked to the tank. When you blow into one of them, air will come out this little hole. That's your gas overflow line. Hook that up to a piece of hose near the right side of the air box, which drains to the ground and hook the other hose to the charcoal canister. Does that answer your question? In other words the two vacuum sized hoses hook up to two other hoses, one leading to the ground drain, the other leading to the canister. These connections are made near the right side of the air box.

Hoses Reversed?

I'd wager you reversed the fuel lines when you put it back together.

You could have revered the vent lines- but that shouldn't cause such a problem. Until it rained!

That would be a DAMNED good trick, given that the fittings are reversed.... ;)

is what's happened - and with the cannister that WILL cause rough running.

Thanks for the feed back. I discovered that I had bumped the throttle cable out of its sleeve not allowing proper throttle control.

Yep! Happens to the best of us. I was just about make my standard suggestion about that very thing. Glad you found it quickly. Sometimes its hard to see that thing just sitting there ledged on top of the cable ferrule.

True, assuming it HAS quick-disconnects. I've seen more than a few bikes that had them removed for whatever reason.

Bumping the throttle cable is an 1100 trick!
