Newbie help: long term on an r1150 or an r1200

I am new to this area and I am considering a beamer purchase. Please forgive if this has been a question discussed before.

I have looked at the specs of both the 1150 rockster and the new r1200r. My concern is more along the lines of the newer bike also having seemingly a lot more things to brake than the older one. Is there really more to break on the 1200 and will I be better off away from civilization on an 1150?

I assume you mean "break" both times.. since one of the big improvements of the R1200R is the elimination of the servo-assist brakes.. which break, and are a PITA to service.

I'd say there is actually LESS stuff to break on the R12R - the CANBUS electronic system is actually much simpler than the old analog point-to-point system. The fuel injection is much improved. The transmission - improved. The rear-drive - improved. Suspension - pretty much the same unless you get ESA.

Many of us have had NO problems with our R12R's.. and most everyone here just loves'm to death. About the best bike BMW has made in the past 20 years.

just a lot more plastic but its worth it!!!( just graduated from an1150 to r12 .My riding buddy has a 06 rockster and he has lost interest in it since riding my r12)

i had an ABS R1150R for 5 years and now I have a non-ABS R1200R. The ABS is a pain at service time but is great on the road. The 1150 engine makes less power, burns more oil and has higher fuel consumption. The R12R has a 40% better power to weight ratio but is not as pretty.

From a rider's perspective, the 12 is a significantly better bike than the 11


Really, if the R1150R is no more than HALF the price of a new R12 you might consider it but otherwise you are burnin' money.
