Hey gang,
Went for a long ride today up in Adirondack state park today. Bike performed perfect as usual but I was surprised when I looked down to check my trip odometer to get a gauge on how many miles I had consumed. It read about 44 miles. Look at it again about 30 minutes later and it read 44 miles. Well, the speedometer is not working. I know it is a simple cable connection. I was curious if anyone else has had this occur on their bikes. If so, where did you start first to figure out the problem? Instrument cluster connection or connection near the wheel.
Oh, while I am here let me give a plug for the installation of a bicycle speedometer on your R1150R. A while back I believe Cyclerob had posted his install of one. I believe it was the SigmaSport 800. I picked up the SigmaSport 1600 off Ebay for about $22 shipped a while back. Nice because it gives a better read of your speed if you are not using GPS but it came in handy today. Not only could I read my speed but it has a trip up and trip down function so I was able to track after fill ups. For the cost of the unit, it was well worth it.
Well, back to the speedometer. If anyone can help me out with some advice it is much appreciated.

Once I had the speedometer cable unscrewed and disconnected (vibration?) at the speedometer side. Screwed it back with some blue locktite - no problem since then.

Nothing much to contribute here other than to say that when i bought my 02, it had gone through a speedo change earlier in its life. Came with the official sticker from BMW on the fuse cover stating the mileage at the time, and the discrepency in mileage is reflected in the title as well.

Well, the little metal tab is broken on the speedo sending unit. About $40 from Chicago BMW
