Screech or Squeal

Post by Croc »

HELP

I went for a ride this morning and noticed (even through the earplugs) a constant screech or squeal. This was very ovbious even when stationary but idling.

The bike is a R1150R (2003) When I got home the noise was still there at idle and appears to come from under the tank. I switched off and then when switching on the key the noise starts for about 2 seconds then stops suddenly. On starting the motor the noise comes back.

It does not appear to be the brake servo as that is operating as normal and with the normal sounds.
Could this be the fuel pump?? The fuel filter was changed by myself at 24000 and I have now done 27000 miles.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. This a a long weekend in UK - Monday is a holiday. What a BUMMER!!!! :x :x

croc,

Fuel pump is a good guess. Somebody else had a pump screech, with an easy fix. Hopefully yours is as easy.

Here's a link with some good suggestions for figuring it out.

Iowa - thanks for the heads-up. Looks like anything that can happen has happened before and is posted on this board!!
I will lift the tank tomorrow and start the diagnostics.
Thanks again

Iowa

Thanks again. I found one of the QD's was slightly apart - hardly noticeable. Pushed it back in and secured all together with cable ties and job done - less than five minutes :D :D Immediately started like a dream and no squeal.
