Software Update
So I was at the dealer yesterday making an appointment for the brake and ews ring recalls and the fellow tells me there is also a software update.. I went through software updates on my K1200S and they weren't always a good thing. Anyway my 07 runs fine, but I'm wondering if anyone has had their bikes software updated and did you notice any difference?

Re: Software Update
Erik,
I have been told by a reputable source that you want software version 11.2 - and nothing before that. Apparently .2 contains a number of bug fixes..

Hi Erik
I had that update and I believe I feel a somewhat smoother engine behaviour at low revs.
No noticeable disadvantages.
Cheers

Thanks Fellas !
Re: Software Update
Another thing:
Following the update my bike computer has become uncanningly precise. So much that by now I have stopped doing fuel calculations in my head. The number just simply were the same all the time!
So that could be another reason to update.
Cheers

Re: Software Update
At my 600 mi service the dealer mentioned the software update but they had had problems after the install and thought it would be a good idea to wait. My bike has no issues, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Re: Software Update
I had the software update with my 6k service. HUGE difference. The sound had a touch more growl to me and I agree it was more precise. Throttle response was dead on.
Re: Software Update
The knock sensor upgrade has cured the rattle I often heard on hard throttle.

Any way to check which version is on the bike without taking it in?

Re: Software Update
I had all three updates done two weeks ago (i.e. front brake, key ring, computer). The bike had no issues before except that the fuel gauge was broken (and it still is) and I don't notice any difference in the way the bike runs, feels, or performs as a result of all the changes.

Re: Software Update
Im with r12r_don on this one, I would not go as far as to say a "huge" difference but definitely smoother specifically when cruising at a fairly low speed say 80 to 100 km/h and yes the exhaust note seems to have developed a little more of a growl.

Re: Software Update
Having moved from a Hayabusa to a new R1200R, I've been very sensitive to this bike's nuances, so I've noticed a few changes with the engine ECU software update done yesterday with my first service:
- nearly zero throttle free play (used to be 2-3mm, now about 1mm)
- SUPERB on-off throttle transitions (they are now carb smooth with zero drive lash)
- odometer jumped from 680 miles to 760 miles*
- smoother cold-start idle
Overall, I'm really pleased.
*The only surprising thing was my permanent odometer went from 680 miles to 760 miles, but the trip meters and fuel levels indicated a short test ride after the 1st service. I noticed that this morning and I'm going to call the shop.

Re: Software Update
I recently bought my 07 with 9,000 miles and just had my 12,000 service competed. I had all of the recalls and updates installed, new Pilot Road 2's, plus the regular service for 12K including valves. The engine sounds better, deeper and seems buttery smooth. I agree with an earlier poster that my fuel guage seems more accurate, but with all of the work I had done, it's really tough to tell if it's just the software update. I was pleased with the bike before, but now it seems perfect.
