Gas Gauge Failure?
Anyone have their gas gauge stop working? On a full tank I have no bars, and the miles to empty reads: "---"
Is there a way of resetting or will this require dealer service?

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
No "reset".. sounds as if the sensing strip inside the tank has gone T-up. Will require a dealer visit unfortunately, since the new strip has to be calibrated.

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
This is a 3rd gas gauge failure posted here within the last 2 weeks.......hopefully this is not a repitition of the EWS problem.....which everybody denied as a reare fluke.....untill the recall........
Mine reads full all the time......and the miles to empty goes UP instead of down.......
I know I will get some heat for saying this.....but this is the way I feel.....advanced bike it is!....quality bike it is not!
I know....I know.....some of you have never had ANY problems......but it does not make the ones who had feel any better........

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
Mine has a similar issue. The gage reads full with a 1/4 black band at the top with the lines underneath. Sometimes it reverts back to the correct display, all lines. Presently it has 1/2 tank and the black bar at the top was showing for 25 minutes before all lines appeared.
Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
Yep, Had mine looked at when in for the recalls/tech bulliten service last week. Dealer could not finalize the diagnosis due to lack of an appropreate(sp?, one of the words that always give me fits) computer cable. Got to cut them some slack as the dealership has only been open a month. Shop foreman was confident it was the strip but said that BMW would not cover it under warranty until it had been diagnosed with the cable. He also told me that my bike was the 4th or 5th they had seen for that issue last week. I'll report back when they get me in for the service.

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
Mine has never worked properly. Two sensors and the software update (dunno how that relates to the OBC, but the dealer mentioned it in the same breath .. ).
First one - failed at about 25 km from new, no fuel reading at all.
Second one - always thinks the tank is full. Servcie manager assured me it had been calibrated.
Reset / software upgrade - worksheet "order new fuel sensor". Still hopelessly optimistic, juts a bit less so.
Waiting on new sensor ....
I get no warnng lights etc - so effectively the trip meter is my fuel guage. Maybe I've simply never triggered the low fuel light coz lack of warning makes me a tad nervous and I fill before 350km / 217mi (I've hardly used it around the city, so running out would have been a real bugger). My CS' low light gives me exactly 100km to bone dry

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
Mine failed the same way (2008 model). Dealer replaced the tank sensor under warranty at the 600 mile service.

Re: Gas Gauge Failure? RECALS?
Where can I find a summary of the recalls to see if I have any outstanding on my 2007 r12r?

Re: Gas Gauge Failure?
I can't tell you where to find an official list. Maybe your dealer? As I understand it there are three that could affect an R1200R:
1. Brake line problem on the front brake could cause a loss of fluid and diminished brake power to the front brakes
2. Computer
3. Ignition could stop functioning because of something in the key or the interface between the key and the switch.
In addition, Don listed a new one for GS owners for just a few bikes with bad transmissions built early in 2008.
Note: This is not an official list.
