What I posted then was that Progressive Insurance offers nationwide towing 24/7 (by a motorcycle-specific tow truck) for $8 added on to the annual premium, which was by far the cheapest I've found...

I think it was Dr. Strangelove's thread that started that discussion if memory serves...

I am amazed that no one has mentioned this one crucial maintenance item. Be certain the check the antifreeze in the radiators.

Good luck on your trip. A friend and myself are leaving in two days for a similar ride. Not quite as long --- probably 500 miles one way. We're going to split it up into two to three days down and probably the same back. Heading to Birmingham, Al and check out the Barber Motorsports Museum. Hit campgrounds along the way.

Nice to read all the advice. I don't have much to add except to help you remember that you are driving a BMW. They last. Treat them well and they last even longer. I always carry the standard tool kit with me on trips here around Europe. I've used it almost every trip, but NEVER on my own bike. Honda's, Suzuki's, Aprilia's... they've all appreciated BMW tools... My only advice would be to travel light. Don't bring too many clothes, forget about the towel and other toiletries you don't really need. Don't use a backpack but hook your stuff on to the bike. Check the oil level and tire pressure and go. Wear your leathers (if you have them), thermo underwear, earplugs, and sunglasses. Have fun and enjoy the twisties in Colorado.
