headlight guard for the R1200 R?????

Post by Rolando33 »

Does anyone know of a headlight guard for the R12R? I prefer the vinyl skin type like JMC products make, but I am willing to look at anything.

Oh, and yes, my R12R is on order (will be here in 2 weeks). I used to own a Rockster, and after buying a K12S, it's up for sale, and I am back on a boxer. Thank GOD!!!! :D

Hi Rolando, welcome to the boards!
Since I've already replaced one headlight from a crack that grew out control from road debris, I'd be interested in one also.
I had a AeroFlow cover for my 1150r, but last time I checked they didn't make one for the 1200.

I put this one from Australia on my bike. I am not thrilled about the looks but you get used to it. After a fairly short time I had two little fissures in my headlight glass so I got this.

What is happening to my skin?
Where is that protection that I needed?

I have the same one, bought semi-used from someone (on this list? Don't remember.. think so..) It's not "attractive" - but I replaced the headlight assembly ($135) last year due to a stone taking out the front lens. Figured I didn't want to do that again. I don't see how one could be much more attractive since the shape of the lens pretty much dictates the guards shape (the lens isn't a simple curve) and the thickness of the velcro super-dots dictates how far out it mounts. I guess the three lines on it is paying homage to the R100RS headlight cover from the '80's.

I tried to convince Cee-Bailey to make one, but had no real luck.

There was a guy at RA national last summer selling a plastic-film cover. It was around $45/installed. I tried making my own plastic film, and failed in installing it due to the odd curvature of the Roadster headlight lens... If you happen upon this guy - it might be worth having him do it. I didn't - and sorta regret being a tight-ass-cheapskate at the time.

Thanks for all the information! I agree, those plastic plates don't look that great, but they are cheaper then a headlight. I love the image of MadMax in the background of Celticus's bike. :-X I will check in with AMHP for one before my ride shows up.

Thanks again! =D>
