Yes, this site does have a parent site - r1150r.net or r1150r.org. Both bring you to the same place and you will then see the banner. It is a confusing situation for those that visit from Google and get linked directly to the forums. I'm not sure how to fix this, its just how the site is built.
Thanks for everyone comments and more importantly, support! This thread has generated quite a few new memberships! I (and the site) really appreciate that.
I will think about trying to automate the registration or reminder process. I am not immediately sure how to do that with my limited programming skill set, but its definitely something I should implement. I must admit I am really bad about reminding people about renewals, primarily because its a really manual and intensive process for me and its easier for me to just throw a few bucks in than keep on top of it. I'm lazy that way.
I try to take a laid back approach to managing this board and in general it works. I am blessed with users that treat eachother with respect and are generous enough to donate their hard earned money to support the site. I generally only ask for money when needed, but it is nice to have a bit of a buffer. . But it is a fight sometimes to keep the money coming in, especially these last few years, which is strange to me because active users keep increasing in #'s.
I think the most compelling thing you can do as a non member is look at the value derived from the site and say to yourself; did this site save me $20...$60?? I think most will agree it has saved them hundreds, perhaps in being able to do a service themselves by learning how to do it here, or by avoiding a bad purchase, etc. So why not donate to keep this valuable resource going. I haven't even touched on the hundreds of bikers that the site has helped get together for local gatherings (and of course, the Beakster Bash!) to share in good times and friendship.! Ok, I'm rambling now.
So, thanks again for everyone's kindness and good behavior! It makes life much easier for the mods and me.
I sent a donation via PayPal. I agree with Bay Area Bill and wouldn't take offense at all to receiving a more pro-active appeal for donations periodically.
