Re: 12v accessory socket
On my Rockster the plug itself was an option. If I remember correctly, the plug itself was around $15 and installs in a hole on your starter cover that has a blank plug that you need to remove. There is a small quick connect to the wire loom behind this cover that the new plug will snap into. I don't know why BMW didn't just put this on the bike in the first place?? Hope this helps!

Re: 12v accessory socket
If I am not mistaken the 12 V socket was not factory installed for the European (or at least UK) Rocksters.
If you want to charge your battery - in the short run you can just remove the starter cover (located near THAT left footpeg) and hook the positive lead to the starter motor top wire (usual disclaimer applies, do at your own risk) and the negative to a solid metal part without paint.
In the long run – although you can use the 12 V socket you may be better off by plugging gender specific connector with wires to the battery terminals and route the wires under the front seat. The 12 V socket of course will work well, but make sure you add inline fuse as any bastard with a piece of wire or metal object and malicious intent can fry your battery.

cheers Dan,
it is strange why they don`t fit them to rocksters as standard ,for the sake of £7.50($15), not to much of a issue i`ll just buy one,
thanks again Gaz

Re: 12v accessory socket
Sure you can, I have done it earlier this year when my bike was left motionless for 1 month in the cold and the battery drained below acceptable.gaz h wrote:can i jump start my bike from the starter
Use voltmeter to confirm where to hook if unsure.
Cheers
Re: 12v accessory socket
I have a connector to the battery under the seat right at the front. I can plug in an optimax charger there. Seems to work fine and am pretty sure it is BMW factory installed.

I got it installed under my seat too, no idea if this was done later.

See picture of charging socket under the seat. Makes charging the battery easy. Hope this helps.

Re: 12v accessory socket
Looks like someone fitted an optimate type connector for charging batt under your seat. Gaz H how easy was the terminal connections on the Oddesy battery. I have just ordered one and was thinking of making two posts from bits of angle to bolt to the battery with a hole in to take the existing leads.. Waddayathink???
See Ya...RR
Re: 12v accessory socket
There are L shaped connectors that are available for these batteries i think i've seen them on ebay somewhere. I managed to carefuly bend the terminal connectors so they sat in position on top of the battery, works fine good solid connection, superb battery.ronnierockster wrote:Looks like someone fitted an optimate type connector for charging batt under your seat.
