New BMW cages (and Porsche and Corvettes) come with full synthetic in them from the factory.. If you listen to mechanics, service managers and parts managers - they are often sources of not very good tech advice. You think that wouldn't be the case since they're in the field, but once they get an idea (like never use synthetic before 20k or 30k or whatever) they never seem to give it up. Out of curiousity - you might ask "why?".. and bet they'll say "the rings will never seat".. in fact - bet'ya a beer on that one. :smt080

True, my 06' BMW 325xiT (E91) came with full synthetic, and didn't get it's first oil change until 14,000 miles! No service after break-in, just go... Maybe that's how they include all the maintenace when you buy one- buy just not doing it. I think of all the track days I put on that oil, and how many times it was at redline.... Oh well, I'm selling it anyway...
I also understand what you say about techs getting set in their ways and not changing. It's a hard call.... listen to the factory reps or internet forum peeps.... I guess it's best to listen to everyone, research it the best you can and go from there...

No. Not to worry. They hopefully changed the engine oil at the 600 mile service.. and my bike used less than 1 liter in the 3,200 miles when it was still using oil. Since then - none.
