proud new owner

Post by Graf »

well....after taking the plunge.....as discussed in the tread by that name:-)....i am a proud owner of 08 r1200r. once i took a test ride it didn't take long ro me to ask the sales person to ride back to dealership where my check book lost 1 check in a matter of minutes:-). It's all true what people say here.....taking a ride on one of those bikes is hasardous to your checking account.....
i would like to thank everybody on this forum for all the information supplied...directly or indirectly.(i have been a lurker for some time)...that made me want to purchase this bike...

here is what i got.....night black r1200r, computer, center stand, heated grips, abs, sport shield.....and the dealer threw in a 600mi service...

Congratulations! I bet you had a big fat grin on your face when you rode it home!

It's funny. The R12R really isn't anywhere near any of the bikes I imagined myself owning (I mean, I traded a K1200S for it!)... but somehow on that test ride it just seemed to fit me perfectly. I have never had so much confidence on a test ride before!

Anyhow, good luck, ride safe and here's looking forwards to summer!

CAUTION do not test ride an R1200R! Its been proven time after time, test riding this bike WILL lead to checkbookus depletus.

Graf, Sounds like you got my bike by mistake, and the same deal with the service. I got 35% off on the luggage as well as the 600 mile service, however there is one difference, you have yours and I'm still waiting!! Congrats.

Congratulations.
The bike gets smoother and smoother as you pile on the miles. Simply amazing!
I traded my K12R for the R & never looked back...

Enjoy :D

thank you guys!!!!....coming off the GSXR600 it's a HUGE difference. I do not think I have ever rode the bike that was so well balanced and easy to ride. I am taking it out every evening on the twisties and enjoin the hell out of it....everything seems so effortless and the bike is so forgiving.....
anyway....enough of the prases....this can be endless.....now for the bottom part....i do not find the 08 comfort seat very comforting....and my tail bone would agree with me....maybe it's my riding position...which is very different from gixxer....so the questions is....what do you guys have?....anything more comfy then another?....I know you can't go wrong with a custom seat....and I will get that eventually.....but in the mean time...what can you recommend.....i already scrolled through some posts about the seats....but nobody really says why they like their seat....and most important to me other then comfort is PRICE.......thx.

I felt exactly the same way and had decided to buy a custom seat but after three months or so of riding I no longer notice it. I think, coming off a sportsbike, we're just not used to sitting upright.

My advice is to wait 6 months, if you still have the same problems then get a custom seat made (a gel one)...

Some people on this forum swear by the Airhawk inflatable seat pad. I shelled out for one (Ithink it was around $160 before shipping) and am hoping against hope that it is as good as they say. I have a 2000 mile ride coming up and if it doesn't do the job I'm going to be in a world of hurt. I first tried an Alaskan sheepsking which was a waste of time. It boosted my comfort zone from 20 minutes to 30.

When I can afford it, I will get a custom seat, probably a Russell Day-Long. I have never heard a word said against them, unlike any of the other brands, where at least one owner has a horrer story to tell. I think the Russell looks horrible, but since I spend more time riding the bike than looking at it, that's OK.

When you get your AirHawk, read the directions and take the time to get it adjusted right. It makes all the difference IMHO.
It takes a minute to get used to, you get to a point where you can steer with your butt cheeks  since you're floating on air. A little squeeze of the butt cheek and you lean right in....

Welcome to the good life Graf.... congrats on your new ride.
Comfort and price, yep that's an AirHawk...
With over 30,000 miles on my 1200R, comfort is obviously a must for me, and AirHawk does the trick.

Well I think that there should be a big red caution label on this entire forum! I actually ordered a new R12R without any test ride! I've got hooked just by reading all the positive (and in some very rare occasions negative) things you praise the bike for.

I'll get my black pin-striped beauty in about weeks time. :smt048

Hmm... Stockholm is only 40 minutes from Uppsala.

There seem to some more people from the northern part of the world (Sweden) on this forum. Some from my home-town (Uppsala) as well! Great!

Vi ses på Rörken! O:)
