Looks better than the large head bolts and the fender washers IMHO.
They look RIGHT and bolt right in - no worries.

The bolts are stainless and you can order them from: http://www.mcmaster.com/
Part number: 92125A296
You have to order 10 for around $1 each or PM me and I'll send you a couple for $1 @ plus postage as I now have 8 extras.
Maybe you guys missed this. The bolts are perfect for this. I only have two left that I'm keeping for spares you'll have to order your own.

I just tried to order these hand guards from my local dealer and was told that these have been discontinued and he wasn't able to order them. Does anyone know where I can get a set. The ones from the 2008 GS wont work.

Thanks for the help

Try Chicago BMW, it's where I bought mine, plus they give 20% off all BMW parts

If no luck, maybe you could put a request in here for some..

Why did they say the 08's won't work?
It doesn't make much sense to discontinue a popular accessory for last years bike...

Try Bob's BMW http://www.bmwbobs.com/ that's where I got mine. Ordered them on Tuesday morning and had them Wednesday afternoon. They have a huge stock of parts and have always had whatever I needed.

Gary - I think your dealer is FOS (FullOShict). These would be a common crash repair item. No way BMW is discontinuing them. They may have changed the PN for the complete "kit" - but bet the individual parts are available.

A bit of work with REALOEM.COM turns up: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=32&fg=25 - where the "kit" is listed as "ENDED see EBA 7687838" - but right under it is shown:

SET HAND PROTECTOR 1 71607697149 +core
ONLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH
-- HANDLEBAR VIBRATION ABSORBER 330G 1 32717693509
-- COUNTERSUNK SCREW M12X90 1 32717698103

If we now go to Chicago BMW and lookup 71607697149 - it returns:

71607697149 HAND PROTECTORS Regular price $95.00, Discount Price: $76.00

BTW - punching the original PN: 71607687859 into Chicago's lookup https://chicagobmwmotorcycle.com/cgi/search_part.cgi also turns it up as being available - at $0.05 more than the new part number.

What you have is a lazy or ignorant parts dude. You might keep that in mind, and the on-line sources as a backup in future dealings with him.

YMMV..

Well, tried to order it from Bobs in MD, no joy, on back order. Called Chicago and same story, said I might be able to order the individual parts but recalls hearing something about not being able to get the brackets for them and that I should try later. Both told me there are none in the country.

Guess I just missed the boat! I'll keep trying!

Yeah!, I spent a good part of the day on the phone with a few dealers.

Heard things like parts freeze and stuff like that, I guess the issue is the bracket that attaches the hand guard to the bar.

If you're referring to 1150GS handguards - I'd say no. I had a set I took off my RS that I traded in on the R1200R, and I couldn't make a clean install of them. Went with the 1200GS ones.

Bummer. I imagine they'll reappear sooner or later.. guess if they're being installed on new GS's they're still being produced.
