Hello to everybody

Post by lucagoa »

Hello,

I'm a newbie in this board. Im from Italy and I just got (yesterday) my R12R. I had a test ride one month ago and I get immediately "engaged" with this bike. I also red a lot about this bike in your board, getting lots of useful information and tricks. Now let's get to the first question.
Bike is supposed to work with high octane fuel (98). As you probably know in Europe the common is 95 octane fuel. What do you think it will happen if I have to refuel my bike and a high octane fuel is not available?

Thanks a lot
Luca

Ciao e benvenuto, Luca!

I think as long as you run the highest octane you can find, you'll be OK.

Man, I envy you being able to ride in Italy. A more perfect place for motorcycling can hardly be imagined.

Hi there and welcome!

If you fuel up with low octane fuel, you will hear a nasty high-pitched sound at 5-6000 revs when you crack the throttle open.

Try looking up the word "pinging" in this forum. It will make things a lot clearer I think...

Lucagoa, welcome. The engine can run on lower octane fuel (95 octane) This is common in the UK too. It will not ping because the engine management system will compensate. All that will happen is that the performance will not be as good. For what its worth I use the high octane stuff as much as I can in mine. In the UK, the highest octane is around 97. The R will run best on 98 octane - which is difficult to come by in the UK.

Ciao,

thanks a lot to all of you. In Italy you can find 98 and aldo 99 octane fuel but only on biggest gas station. just wondering if i was around with my bike and had to fuel up with 95 octane.
Sure I'll fuel up 98 octane as soon as this is available.

I run Shell V-power (99) in my R12R and at least it my experience it appears to run slightly smoother then... but then I could also be imagining it!

However I am sure the bike will run perfectly adequately on much lower octane rated fuels.
