R1200R - still in the prouct line?

Post by bogieBill »

Finally test rode the R12R yesterday, WOW! Nothing like the V-twin I am used to. About to pull the trigger, went to BMWMotorcycle USA website to research available accessories. SURPRISE, when clicking on "gear" and "select your model", there is no R1200R listed under the "R12's"! Anyone know if this means the model is to be dropped, or are this bike's factory accessories so limited as to be undeserving of page space?
Makes a bit cautious to think it is anunpopular model that's going away so soon...no matter how much I think I would love riding it.

Great ride, look and technology. Compared to my previous HD ride, like going from my brother in laws's F150 to my wife's Boxster.
But wonder why it's still listed under" Urban Bikes" but not as a model with available accessories.

Any thoughts?

I don't know why it's not listed under the accessories, but I seriously doubt that the bike is going to be discontinued this quickly, because:
- 2007 was it's first model year.
- BMW has always had a naked boxer in it's lineup.
- Reviews (both professional and owner) have been glowing. Look at you, you are about to suffer from the same fate a lot of us here did: Test Drive = Cash Outflow = Permagrin :D

It's more likely to do with updating the website rather than the product line.

Surely the ST will be locked in a room with the scotch & revolver first...

I'm another who came (for a test ride), saw (the bike looks the business) and conquered (the tough decision to part with my cash) :D :D
Here in the UK there are a limited number of 12Rs being produced, so we have to make up our minds. I haven't heard of the production stopping :o I reckon you will be safe to go ahead and purchase :P
Very few accessories to be found, but lots in the pipeline to drain any money you might have can be found at http://www.bmwbikebits.co.uk
You can download a new R1200R section of their catalogue - I recall 15 pages of stuff; you have to ring for prices

Guess what? Just looked at BMW site (again) , lo and behold the R1200R is now listed in the accessories index!!
Swear it wasn't there last night, website must have been in update process and my timing was coincidentally bad.
Thank you everyone for your helpful responses!
Off tomorrow to finalize the deal...will update later

It wasn't until I emailed them pointing it out. They sent me a very nice email thanking me for pointing this out - and giving a link to the fixed version.. :)

Works now.. just wish there was more R1200R specific stuff..

No idea. I just clicked on the link in my message and it opened right up. If it's not accessable I'd guess it's something at your end causing it.

intersting: using Internet Explorer, "it comes right up". Using my favored Mozilla Firefox it is inaccessible. Strange.

Accessing the bmwbikebits site, I see listing for most BMW bikes, but cannot find teh section for the R1200R. Am I jsut incompetant? (you do not have to answer that ). :x

When you get the list of bike models on the left of the screen, look on the right. There's a link for you to click on for R1200R; this takes you to a downloadable file. Have lots of paper & ink in your printer!

I don't pretend to know why, but I have the same problem with several sites. So I keep the Internet Explorer icon handy, but only use it when Firefox fails me - rare enough that FF is by far preferred.
