Advice please

Hi all
I have a 2002 R1150R (ABS). I want to buy brake pads. One of the local agents here suggested that I buy "organic" pads as apposed to "sintered" pads. His reason being that the organic pads will last longer. Do any of you have advice on this?

Second question: The prices quoted here will amount to the deposit on another Beemer. Any suggestions where I can buy:

a fuel filter,
brake pads
spark plugs (NGK or Bosch????) etc.?

Those items should all be available through a commercial parts supplier in South Africa. I don't know what versions you get but the pads, plugs, and filters are not particularly 'proprietary'; there are good substitutes and complements.

Do you have Manny, Mo, and Jack? The Pep Boys?

You might talk to one of the posters in the UK, Australia or New Zeeland and they might be a ble to pick the parts up for you and ship them for a more reasonable price. BMW OEM parts are expensive......replacements are many and quite manageable in cost.

As an example you can run Autolite AP 3923 single electrode spark plugs for about $2 each and will give you equal service as the OEM. EBC, also sells brakes pads for the bike at about $30/set, you need two sets (two disk brakes), the fuel filter, when you replace it, get the metal one instead of the plastic.

My .02 worth--------

Organic pads are a nice way of saying asbestos. There may be other materials used but that's what they used to be. I use "organic" pads on my r and have for the last 30K. They are easier on the rotors--the pads don't last as long but pads are much less expensive than new rotors.

I ask for them on my bike and my truck. (I wish I was using my bike's brakes right now but it's broke!)

I can get the parts locally but it is cheaper to import them from the USA, even taking shipping and the exchange rate into account.

I would rather go with the harder pads . . . I think they make less brake dust. Easier to keep the wheels clean.
