2002 R1150R - should the bike start in any gear ?

Post by prashantdoshi »

If side stand is up, and the clutch is in, shouldn't the bike start in any gear including neutral ?

As long as you pull in the clutch, if it is in gear. :o

Clutch Drag?

Post by maduko »

If it doesn't it sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging.

Possibly due to a faulty clutch master and/or slave cylinder?

since i first got mu "R" - i can only start her in neutral. bike will not kick over in gear even with clutch in.

But saying that - today twice i lost drive whilst in a corner and under load - so i am little concerned, considering she is 3 years old with 24k on her!

Just fixed the same problem

Its the clutch switch...they are $80 each plus loom...

the tank only has to be slid back a little to access no need to remove fuel hoses

I followed the wires back and soldered a link to be able to start whilst in
gear...which bypasses the switch, of course if the side stand is down it
wont start so that is safety enough for me.

Check the wire...

Check the wire from the clutch lever down along the handlebar. My wire for the clutch cut-out switch broke and had to be put back together. In one of my previous posts I had a picture of it.
