After going to http://www.tailofthedragon.com I am wondering if it is worth riding US 421. I don't want a ticket for going 30 mph, or some other bs.

Something happened....Plans thwarted again.....I will be there...if not Thursday night, then Friday early.

As Chris (my step-son) said upon our return two years ago after riding up with me, "Mom, they only go up there so they can drink whiskey at night."

Bad news - I can't make it this year. :( A whole bunch of things came up for next weekend and I just can't swing it. I'll probably get out for a day-ride, maybe to Seneca Rocks but that's all I can get in.

I have to admit that I've had a good year so far riding, and still planning on the November Arkansas 'bash'.

Have a meatball for me (at the nice Marion Italian restaurant).

Sorry guys, I'll be thinking of 'Hungry Mother'.

Why I know the 10 day forecast is wrong.

1. Highs for next weekend around 80.
2. Lows in mid 50s(perfect for camping).
3. Only 10% chance for rain.

Hungry Mother

Post by STDocLizard1 »

Here's hoping you guys have a smashing good time down at the Park. I'll see you cats next May somewhere north of the Mason-Dixon Line for the Bash. Don't e-mail me for any bail money. Patty and I are on our way to the left coast on the 23rd of this month.

Best regards,

Sorry that I have nearly disappeared, but I am still in! My plan is to spend the night of Thursday in the Blacksburg area and to make it into HMSP on Friday morning. Will I find any of you guys there?

Thanks, Jim. Enjoy your trip.

Carlos, I'll be there Friday morning if I don't end up going over Thursday evening. Even though Vann isn't coming Thursday evening, Phil says he might be there Thursday. If Mike comes down we may have a whole group of people there Friday morning.

I mounted a new Z6 Saturday so I'm just counting the seconds until we kick this thing off!

Mike says he is arriving Thursday.

Seven sites in Campground C available Thursday night. All sites reserved by some geezer for Friday/Saturday. Ten sites available Sunday night.

Remember last year. The Thursday campers have until 3 pm to check out, then it all be ours.

I want to ride VA 61 and 42 on Friday. Using VA 16 as a cross over lane.

Saturday, I am thinking about 16 to Volney; 58 east to VA 94 into the hills and hook up to 52. Then either 52 north to 42/61 or loop back on 21 to 58/16 again.

No planned dinner this year. I will eat at the Appletree for breakfast/evening meal. You can try the Italian place in town if you want.

It may be difficult to make an early HM departure Thursday afternoon.:-)....
If all works out, I'll make it early evening Thursday..otherwise don't look for me until Friday about noonish.

Mike, do you have an ETOD for Friday morning? If we miss that, do you know where you'll be having lunch?

Listen, if you are going to organize rallies, we are going to expect more planning from you... ... just kidding!

I may leave early friday, but I may have to work 1/2 of a day. I will adjust my route accordingly, but I should be there by about 5-6 on Friday.

Early departure means that I can take WV/VA 16 all the way from the Ohio River. :D

Huh?

Carlos, I'd guess somewhere between 7:30 and 9:30 AM ETOD. From Blacksburg, you could possibly go West on 460 to Pearisburg, South on 100, then WSW on 42 and ride toward Bland. You and I rode 42 from Bland to 16 last year. Depending on departure times our paths would cross or we could plan to meet at the top of Big Walker (just South on 52 near Bland) at a certain time. Communication can make it happen.

Spoke to Brian (aka the duct tape bandit) last evening and he knows the drill for check-in and securing the Hungry Mother sites for Friday-Saturday as well as the possibilities for getting the walk-on site Thursday night.

He also has a good grasp of not only the Goat Trail series of roads, but the others. You are in good hands.

I am completely hosed by client issues. Vann, I feel like a one-armed fiddler at a Blue Grass festival.

See ya!

I'm still at home...packing as I type...but still at home. My plan is to get up about 2AM and take off. I should make it by 8AM. I'll check in at HM and if nobody is around I'm going to eat somewhere...Or maybe take a nap.

I just returned from a beer tasting with the Stone Brewing Co. at my favorite local http://www.brewscafe.com . Arrogant Bastard Ale(sponsor of my ice hockey team). 2005 Double Bastard is very nice.

I will finish packing in the morning. And see you around 5 pm on Friday.

I may be hoarse from singing Country Roads while I ride Route 16 through most of West Virginia.
