Great little tool. Always wanted one. Glad I bought the BMW one. It is easy to read and very easy to program and change/get info on the fly. The touch screen feature is wonderful and works well with gloves on. Anyone mount theirs in a different spot such as the handlebars left or right? These are pics with the mounting harware that came from BMW specifically for the R1200R
It only blocks a little portion of the guages and does not bother me. The pics make it look as if they are totally blocked, but they aren't.
Ahh the bikes I've ridden. So many bikes, so little time!
I have a Garmin 2720 mounted using the same mount (actually off a GS - but the only difference is the hole spacing for the bar mounts..) and the standard Garmin "Motorcycle Mount"..
The location is fine for me - I like it - and don't have a problem with the instruments being blocked. I've tried off-center GSP mounts on my other bikes and always come back to center mounting - it distracts me less than having to move my eyes to the side with a bar-mounted one, and it's easy to use the controls in the center.
What I do have a problem with is seeing the GPS when using a tank-bag (which for me is all the time.) Even BMWs R1200R specific tank bag mounts too far forwards and will hit the GPS and block it from view. I'm using the tankbag off my departed R1150RS on the Roadster - fits fine, except for the GPS problem. I've had to scrunch down the front 6" of the bag so it basically fits under the GPS, making the GPS useable.
I expect to try out an RKA bag soon - that is low enough unexpanded that it shouldn't have this problem. Of course using it unexpanded means that capacity is less.. so there is always some sort of compromise.
