Did you fit them yourself? How'd it go? Worth the money vs stock? etc etc ...

I didn't put them on myself, but those shocks are fairly easy to disassemble and swap out.

And yes, it's worth every red cent. The ride is more compliant yet stable without feeling the wallowing, especially during hard cornering at high lean angles. Consider that they aren't any more expensive than the Tokico crap that BMW tries to foist off on its customers AND they're rebuildable, yeah, worth every red cent.

Yes. Definitely worth it! And I switched out when my OEM shocks were still in good shape (for use when I get the Ohlins rebuilt). Felt like a new bike.

Well, you know what I mean, Tokico, Showa, Jap craps. I am also disappointed that BMW didn't put Brembo on the Rock as well. I'm really sorry that I got the bike with the ABS and the stupid servo assist because I really want to upgrade the brakes to Brembo.

How does one discover the OEM for Roadster/Rockster brake calipers?

fnfalman, I'm with you re: the servo brakes... the ABS-ectomy appears do-able, with a small handful of parts required to make it happen. This will be on the ToDo list when my Ed80's warranty expires.

We don't talk much about brake upgrades here on the board. Anyone with experience/evidence that caliper replacement will significantly improve braking performance?

Oh, and this thread serves as good reminder that the Mrs. and I need to install her Roadster's Ohlins! (We haven't ridden much this season.)

I think I read somewhere that the San Jose Race team tried different brake pads and rotors, etc, and found the OEM to work the best on the R1200S.

If you look at the inside half (closer to the hub) of the caliper, (looking through the wheel from the opposite side) you will probably see "Tokico".

Ohlins Rock!
I've tried other brands, and I'm sold on their magic.
I've had them on my Rockster for a while now, and they are just amazing.
One thing though. The Ohlins shock up front, is exposed. That means, the shaft sees everything on the road coming at it.
What i did to mine, was I cut a water bottle, and fit it over the springs, as to protect the shaft from debris. Sure, it doesnt look as good, but it'll definitely save your seal from leaking prematurely.

as for what type of water bottle, I use a smart water bottle, cut just right, at the neck, as to not slip below the first loop on the spring from the bottom.

Also are you guys sure that the Ed 80 has Brembos? I find that a wee bit hard to believe because they don't stop any better than the standard Rock.

I don't know about the R1200S, but the Rock's brakes could use some more stopping power.

The Edition 80 and the Regular Rockster have the same front Brake calipers, and They're both made by Tokiko.
The R1100S bikes used to have different brakes. The standard R1100S bikes had the Tokiko brakes, and the R1100S Boxer Cup and Boxer Cup Prep bikes came with the Brembos.

You can tell by the configuration of the pins and screws on the calipers.

Having said this, I've owned both, and the Brembos arent any better than Tokikos. They're just more "racer bling", kinda like Ohlins are (although, for me, there isnt a substitue for Ohlins).

If your brakes on the Ed80 arent impressing you, then there is something defnitely wrong with them. Change the fluid, and bleed them well.
Mine on the Rockster are phenominal.

I'd like to see you do a stoppie with an ABS-equipped Rockster.

The stopping power isn't bad for a big bike like that but the brakes do fade rather quickly when it comes to spirited riding.

Just one of the many reasons I DON'T want ABS... i want to have control of my brakes, thanks.
