Re: Harley advantages over BMW, any?
Girls. No one has ever gotten laid on a BMW. I couldn't keep girls off my Harley. I'm invisible to them on my Beemer.

Re: Replacing the R1200R with what bike
Vibes & stiff ride ?...I don't understand ?? I have / ride an 1150R , and am told the 1200 is even smoother . Stiff ride ? could be shock set-up / valving, from a previous owner maybe ? My R1200R was by far the most uncomfortable bike I've ever owned. I could never ride it more than an hour. My...

Re: Where
it's there..you have to look hard though. Honestly the BMW motorcycle site leaves so much to be desired. They still have the 2009 color schemes on there! And the accessories open into a PDF that harkens back to 2004! Thank the heavens they build their bikes better than their site! http://www.bmwmot...

Move to Texas. You can ride year-round here. Not the most beautiful riding, and you may not always want to ride, but you can go out in the "winter" without electrics.

Re: Why BMW?
I was having coffee one day with my Harley buddies (I was riding an FXDX at the time) and a dude pulled up on a glossy black R1150R. It was the most beautiful machine I'd ever seen. About a week later I rode the Harley to a BMW dealer in Boston and took an R1150R for a test ride. Rode home on the Be...

My SO wants to graduate from her Vespa to a "real" motorcycle, and we're looking for a lowered F650GS for her.

I hate to speak ill of the dead, but anyone who rides a motorcycle without a helmet is an idiot. Sure, I'll respect your right to ride without one, but I won't respect you for doing it.

Re: Pirsig's Endorsement?
It's possible that it was him. He has been treated for serious mental illness over the years. Last I heard he was in Sweden, but he has knocked around quite a bit. It's possible he's a beggar. For those who haven't read it, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance has very little to do with motorcy...

Here's what I do. On Saturday morning I get a special old bath towel out of the back room. I shower as normal. I take the damp towel outside and wipe off the dust, pollen, etc., from the painted bits and cases. That's clean enough for me.

Re: Wet riding freaks me out
I'm just guessing - either you're a fairly new rider, or one who has little rain experience? The modern tires (especially the Pilot-Road II and III) have amazing grip in wet weather. But - there are a few things to remember: 1 - 1st flush: The first 20 minutes or so of rain are when all the ground ...

Re: Smoked grey metallic matte is so tempting …
I saw one yesterday at Lone Star. A very handsome machine indeed. Although I am nowhere near done with my 2007 R1200R, it is awfully nice. I do think I will get that saddle, though, and maybe the mirrors.

And FWIW, I'd hang on to Nancy for dear life. A girl like that doesn't come around every day. Or every century.

This may come as a shock to most of you but I rode from the west coast of B.C. and rode to Cartwright Lab/Nfld. and back to my home on Vancouver Island B.C. in the winter .I hit -53 with a windchill of -61 deg. I started Jan.1st 2010 and was home the beginning of Feb.2010. If you want to see some p...

MAX BMW is a great shop at both its NY and NH locations. I wouldn't be too sad.
