Re: Luggage?

I use Helen2wheels roll bags tied to the side case mounting rack with ROK straps. This combo works great and the bags are waterproof and quite durable.

FI cleaners & anti-seize

Hi, I just attended a tech seminar at BMW in Toronto. They suggest removing the FI's (and o-rings) and let them soak in a FI cleaner, but not the stuff you add to your fuel. So far all I can find is Seafoam and others that are additives. Is there something anyone else is using to soak the injectors ...

I think you can do what you have in mind on the R/R. I had one for 3 years and put 70k km on it, at least 1/2 of that riding 2-up. I recently traded the R for a GS for a number of reason. If you want details PM me or email me via my site (some issues with my particular R, or I would certainly have k...

My 04 seemed to stop consuming at around the 20k km mark. From then, until I traded it at 70k km, it used ~1/2 liter every 5000 km.

Gravel and some dirt is certainly manageable on the R. The 2 limiting factors I found were suspension travel and tire options. Other than that - and unless you're heading for certified off-road territory, there's no reason you can't continue when the pavement ends. I also believe rider capability/ex...

I have a packing list on my trip site. I've listed most of the spares I took on our 3-month trip. Other than a bit of oil and a headlight bulb, I didn't need any of it. Of course, that's because I took it.

Cheers & safe travels

If I recall my manual, you can tape off the wedge-shaped pattern on the face of the headlight lens. This (I'm going from memory here!!) allows you to ride on the other side of the road without blinding on-coming traffic. It does not serve as a permanent conversion.

I dropped the R off yesterday. A buddy of mine (ST1300 rider) is interested in a GS. I arranged to meet him at the dealer and take a test ride. It was 3 degrees C, but the sun was out. The dealer gave us a GS and an R12R to ride. That was my first time on the R1200R. Wow . .. what a difference! The ...

a difficult decision . . .

Well....I traded in my 04 R for an 07 GS (granite/grey) My last ride on the black steed is tomorrow to drop it off at the dealer for the last time. The factors that contributed to this decision are: - my trans shaft failed twice. I'm not 100% confident it won't happen again (they never did pin-point...

Air filter was dirty, but dry. The filter I saved from the last change (12k km ago) was actually cleaner - so I replaced it for what was probably my last ride for the season today. Drained about 1 tablespoon of oil from the airbox cavity (plug above the pre-load knob). Topped up the tank, put some S...

Don't know which Metzelers you have, but I've had 2 on my bike. MEZ4's and Marathon 880s. The MEZ 4s were great, 24k kms. I think they are discontinued. The 880s are still avail. not quite as sticky, but you should get great mileage out of them - 20-25k kms. Of course, this depends on your riding st...

Still weary...I doubt I'll keep it for another 30k kms.

I just found out BMW released the F800GS...I suppose I'll see it at the bike show in Jan 08, here in Toronto. That may be my next ride.

BMW Toronto.

Not too pleased with their service over the last year, although they fixed the clutch failure. Their just too convenient at 6 km from my house.

I'll go elsewhere in the spring. Was actually looking at a KTM today.

tor1150r The behavior you are experiencing is usually associated with an air leak, being that the problem is at idle the leak is minor, once the engine speed goes up, the air volume past the T/B's overwhelms the volume of air from the leak. I would check the following, in order: 1) The rubber hoses...

There was another post related this this, and I posted teh results there. BMW replaced everything. They replaced all clutch plates and shaft bearings as well (bearings that were not replaced during the 1st re-build at 33k km). The scuff/rub mark on the inside of the housing is actually a grease smea...
