Re: Happy Australia Day to those in OZ

Thanks fellas. It was a great day, and Sydney was a humid 35C – just like an Aussie summer should be. A few beers were had! If you haven’t made it to Oz, definitely stick it on your bucket list. It is a wide brown land, but that just means more than one trip! And, heck you’ve already got mates here....

Re: Disconcecting the battery?

Thanks for the answers. Can anyone else confirm it will set my "service" flag on (2009 model)? If so, I will wait. I just had the 6k service done and the flag turned off. One of these days I will get a GS911. thanks, Scott, just to clarify my situation (I get the service indicator after d...

Re: Disconcecting the battery?

On mine, disconnecting the battery resets the system date and causes the service indicator to display. It doesn't seem to be something you can fix yourself and means a trip to the dealer to get it corrected. Be happy to hear otherwise, because it's a pain in the backside!

Re: On-board computer mystery - Resolved!

Turns out the owners manual for the F800R has instructions on this. As we know, pressing both the OBC buttons at the same time engages a lapt timer. It can then be toggled on and off with the bottom OBC button. The top button apparently toggles the lap timer between the INFO button on the handlebars...

Re: Top box or side cases?

I use the top box for daily commuting and add the panniers when touring. In Sydney, the lanes are generally pretty tight, and panniers do restrict filtering. It’s obviously different for different people and places, but for me, a narrower profile works best around town. I love the top box for what i...

Re: On-board computer mystery

I tried disconnecting the battery without success. I'm a little reluctant to retry various button combinations for fear of making the matter worse, though having said that, when the problem first appeared I did try to reverse out the combination. Maybe I need to press more firmly while having one le...

On-board computer mystery

Okay … I have the on-board computer on my 2008 R12R. In the past the “INFO” button on the handlebars has toggled the display for average speed, average consumption and range. The trip meters, tyre pressure, distance covered, etc were toggled by the lower of the small black buttons between the tacho ...

Re: Can you ride on the highways with the sport shield?

Mmm, interesting to see the varied responses here. I am about 5'10" and get a good deal of buffeting from the sports screen beyond about 120kmh (about 75 mph). It's not drastic, but I wouldn't want to be doing it for long periods. Fortunately, in Oz there's usually plenty of opportunities to av...

Re: so, under most conditions ....

On some forum somewhere a rider mentioned that he dragged the rear brake just slightly when taking off from lights at intersections. His view was that showing his brake light just that little bit longer slowed the driver from directly behind. I've been nudged from behind whilst stationary at an inte...

Re: Camera mount advice please?

Jed, I went through a period of wanting to try and capture video, and mounted my little point-and-shoot in a whole bunch of different places on the bike to try and get a usable video. I've used different Ram mount & Cardellini clamp setups - all with poor results. I don't have the best camera fo...

Re: Who has my vanity plate?

Here in NSW, most of the obvious plates have long gone - though "ARR12" is still available (if you're a pirate)!!! I have "BMW05". I would have preferred "BMW08" (the year model) but choice is limited unless you want to spend a fortune. Still, I'm pretty happy with mine.

Re: Akrapovic installation with pics

I have the same muffler, and even with the baffles removed, it's far from obnoxious. If you search on "R1200R Akrapovic" in YouTube you'll find a few examples. A couple do sound pretty loud, but I think that's more to do with the location than the pipe. The video headed "Pot Akra sur ...

Re: Farkles Help Needed!

Thanks Don. Now that I look a bit closer, the covers aren't threaded. There is an o-ring for that snugness you mentioned! Interestingly, the smaller cover is labelled as suiting the R1200 GS/ST/S. Nothing about the R12R, but maybe it fits. I'll have to wait and see.

Cheers

Re: Farkles Help Needed!

Thanks Don, that's a big help. I've been sent two different sized covers, which I wasn't expecting in the first place. Although it's a bit hard to see without taking them out of the shrink-wrap, one looks to have a thread diameter of about 51mm, so that could be about right for the RHS cover. The ot...

Farkles Help Needed!

Hi all, I was hoping someone could quickly check something on their bike for me. I recently ordered some farkles (F800GS mirrors, swingarm pivot covers, carbon fibre heel guard) and they have been arriving over the last few weeks. I have two problems: First, is that I reckon the wrong swingarm cover...

I'm awaiting the result of my first Motohansa experience with some farkles on order. Rob seemed pretty helpful, though bits due last week still haven't arrived. We'll see... I've never had an issue with Procycles St Peters on the service front, and Marcel seems like a good guy. Accessories are anoth...

Re: New look

Mike, I love the new mirrors. I'd wondered if the 800GS mirrors would slot onto the R but it was all a bit too hard for my local dealer to spend a few minutes doing what your dealer was happy to do. I'd given up trying to figure it out, but now thanks to you, I have to go and spend more money. Yippe...

Mark, Sorry for the belated post. There was a Breakfast @ Brooklyn on the 18th, though I missed this one. I host the breakfast for the BMWTC and generally try and have one every month. We're going to miss November but I'll post up the date for December once it's been agreed. November is being missed...
